Just added a Stingray5 to my Adam Clayton Signature jazz bass.
I only have two, but between them, I am set for the near future.
Of course there will be more as I build up my collection.

Sold my Cabronita a month ago and got a G&L a week ago. Sooooo my vote doesn't change. 6 seems to eb my number even if I actually play 3 of them...
My wife and both of my kids are musicians, so we've got quite a collection, but it's more quantity than quality, lol, except for the first 2 in the list.

I've been retired for about 7 years and am realizing my lifetime collections of things (basses and guitars included) are being viewed by my family as a liability if anything ever happens to me. They don't wish to deal with them and I don't wish for them to be discarded in a fire sale. So...I've started downsizing. I'm selling things I rarely play or donating those that family and friends admire. This way I get fair prices for things I sell and am sure that they are going into the hands of appreciative musicians. My goal is to end up with 2 electric guitars, 2 steel string acoustic guitars, 1 nylon string guitar, 1 acoustic bass, and 1 electric bass.
I've already reduced my collections of Mandolins, Banjos, and Dobros to zero and feel good about it also as the new owners are playing them!

I seem to have been holding at four players for quite some time now. I have covered P, J, PJ and MM configurations, all fivers, and a really nice four-string MIM P I keep for sentimental reasons, and I just think I should have a four-string in the music room. All tuned BEADG, all wear hex-core rounds, and that's all I want.
I've honestly not been GASsing at all. One advantage on that front is that there are so many super-cool basses and older ones that don't come in fivers, so that helps a LOT.

How do you guys keep your instruments? Specially those you don't use that much.
Should I loosen the strings a bit or can I leave tuned even not using it for long periods of time? Any other recommendations?

I have 3 identical Ibanez 5 strings, I live in a small apartment, I think 3 is the minimum number a gigging bassist should have: you should always have 2 to bring to a gig, hopefully!

BC Rich Heritage Classic Mockingbird that I got about 10 years ago. Awesome, versatile tone but the neck dive is atrocious. Still a great bass and I love the active pickups.
1983 Peavey T-40. Bought this for $50 when I was 16 or 17 from some kid that needed money for weed. At the time I already had a Fender Jazz Bass, so the T-40 was my beater and didn't get taken care of very well. Right now it needs a new nut and something is shorting out in the electronics. One day I'll get around to fixing it up.
And the Gibson Thunderbird I bought a couple weeks ago.
I also have an Epiphone Bolt-On SG guitar that I mainly use just for writing guitar parts on.

30. The funny thing is I didn't start off wanting to collect basses. My favorite thing from the Wife is "don't they all sound the same"? No Dear, they don't. 5 string, hollow body, short scale, long scale, pups, wood choices. I didn't keep the ones that I had to fight (IMO) to play. My Children know that I don't lend them out for their gigs, that's why they look good after all these years. Learned my lesson the hard way after lending out my MM Sting Ray.
