I don't like keeping too many around. I already feel guilty about my current herd.
1. Fender Marcus Miller JB77 (MIJ), with a Bartolini TCT and Tom Brantley pickups. This really has the Marcus Miller sound now after the changes (as you'd hope!). It's been my main bass for years but I've never liked the 7.25 inch radius, gloss neck or how poorly it's shielded.
2. Sire V7 Fretless 5. Amazing neck, amazing value. Need to string this with rounds to determine if it's a keeper because I've never liked the sound of the flats I've kept on it for years. Has worked for the jazz gigs I've being doing recently though.
3. Sadowsky TYO Custom 21 with alder body and ebony neck, 60s locations. This is an absolute finger and pick style beast. Notes just jump off the fretboard. Love the smaller body too. Don't love the neck or the slap sound and it doesn't really sound like a jazz bass.
I'd rather just have one fretted and one fretless so I'm looking for something that has the playability of the Sadowsky / Sire but the sound of the Marcus (with a little more versatility). I've found it hard parting with the Sadowsky given that the new prices seem to keep rising - same with the used prices of the Marcus.
Currently considering ordering a custom Atelier Z, undersized body, ash / maple, 21 frets, TCT w/ tone control and 70s locations to replace the fretted basses. I'm hoping that will be the solution for me.
I don't know how people manage having more than 3 or 4 basses. All my favourite players are associated with one main bass (Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Jaco, Justin Chancellor), with one or two others they use from time to time.

Honestly, the Precision has been my go-to bass for everything for about 10 years now. Hard to play anything else. Thought about picking up an American precision, but not at these prices...

I was working on a song and there was a T-Mobile commercial on tv at the time. I wrote lyrics about T-Mobile and sent it over to them on Twitter, just playing acoustic on a video. Didn't really expect anything from it, but they sent me a direct message a month or two later asking for my address. I thought they were going to send me a t-shirt and a T-Mobile branded grill kit like they were giving away at the time, but after a few weeks, this big box showed up. Opened it up, and there it was.
They sent me a Magenta-colored Player Series Jaguar Bass. Not sure if they had Fender paint it a custom color or someone else, but based on the box it came in, it started life as a Capri Orange Jag, and the finish is flawless.
I had a friend make a sticker I can easily remove so I can cover up the T-Mobile logo if I play it out.
