You are taking someone’s work for free. They are professionals and do that for a living. Then, someone takes advantage of them and enjoys their work but doesn’t pay. Let them live on “exposure”!
Do you work for free? Can I use the product of your work and don’t pay?
It’s the same thing.
And YouTube doesn’t pay all the YouTubers. You have to have a monetised account and even then it’s a miserable pay.
You do what you want. Just don’t pretend you’re not stealing from the artists, because you are.
I don't know what kind of world you live in, but many artists I do listen to put their entire album streams on sites like YouTube, on their own official band channels and on record labels' channels. The moment the music goes live it gets jettisoned onto most if not all available platforms that exist.
Now, according to you, I am stealing from them simply by listening to their music that they have willingly and/or under contract put out there on the Internet, with free access, not requiring anything in order to access it. If they REALLY wanted to, they could have easily put their music behind a hard paywall, whatever form that paywall would take and aggressively pursue legal action with anyone that even dared to share that anywhere else.
And your argument about YouTube paying pennies is just immature. It could be either way and you wouldn't know what money it brings and how much of it, anyway.
Going by your logic, you should absolutely be paying artists that work in different mediums simply by gazing at their works - say ads. Or murals. Or photos you see online.
Why not? Aren't you stealing from them by simply looking at their art that's available? How is that different from what you're telling me? When you gaze at a painting, are you tossing bills at it? You should be, otherwise you're stealing.
Or are we just splitting hairs and using double standards here because you just so happen to be into this specific kind of art - music?
I'm tossing you on the ignore list because one, this was a colossal waste of time, and - two, the whole premise is just silly and I choose to support whoever however I want with whatever funds I have and frankly, you can't do a thing about it
