Try cycling. In my experiences it's a lot easier on the knee. Or if you'd prefer you can also trying swimming, though I find this one to be hard to stick with as it wears your whole body out quickly. It's a great exercise though.
Yea, more muscle mass = higher metabolic rate
I'd say it depends how overweight someone is. It's hard to gain muscle mass optimally, without gaining some fat. Also hard to loose fat without loosing muscle.
A few days later on my way to the gym I got curious and asked him if its better to lose weight or to build muscle first.
His answer was pretty much this.
After hearing that I decided to cut the cardio out of my gym routine and add some leg strength training for the meantime.
After I build some more muscle I think I'll begin working on losing any weight Ive gained.

No one said cardio will prevent anyone from gaining muscle. I think you might be misunderstanding whats really being said.
And besides... how do I know youre not just another meat head spreading your own version of the myth?
BTW, my trainer friend is in impeccable shape, and certainly not a meat head. He's not bulky/muscular, but is actually quite lean and cut.
Plus, he can scale buildings like a monkey, so Im inclined to listen to him when it comes to fitness tips.
I was in no way calling your friend a meathead!
I just know i have heard that being said a lot in gyms, and my experience ha been the exact opposite!
What i find ridiculous with that whole bulk up/ cut down thing is that you only look at your best 50% of the time and that i is really bad for your health!
If you try a bit it is really easy to put on muscle while doing cardio and not putting on fat, that's all im saying!
Enjoy your pushups. I'm working on my seventh IPA of the eve.
