How Much Does Your Bass Weigh?

I didn't weigh mine on a scale, but web searches indicate about 9 pounds. It's a 1968 Guild M-85-II; however, since I has a recent shoulder injury I've been putting it on an MBrace stand:

I used the stand all the time now with all of my guitars and basses. It's great since it takes all of the weight off your shoulders, neck, back, hips, knees, ankles, feet, and anything else you can think of. It takes a little getting used to, but I think it is well worth it. It mounts on any microphone stand. I use one with a large tripod on the bottom:

so that I can tilt the stand and bass up on two of the three tripod legs.

Aerated concrete can weigh less than wood. Similar to volcanic pumice stone. Unfortunately they have very high sound absobing properties so would suck the tone out of instruments made from it.

After replacing the stock tuners with Hipshot Ultralites my Jack Casady weighs in at 7.8 lbs. Very comfortable.

Does that help balance it too, or was it fine to begin with?

I just built a 5 string. My heaviest (that B string actually weighs a fair amount) at 3852 grams - 8.49 pounds for those not into the metric system. Lightest is 2994 grams - 6.6 pounds.

Hi Tom,

Jack Casady basses are infamous for severe neck dive. The Hipshots cured it and balanced the bass. They are excellent tuning machines as well.

I've got a Warmoth body/Allparts neck P Bass @ 7 lbs 4 oz. Oh I wanted so badly to crack into that 6 lbs range. If I got rid of the knobs and got rid of the tone pot, removed 2 of the 5 bridge screws, remove 4 of the 16 tuner screws. Find some titanium neck mounting screws. I might get there to 6. Or replace the pickup with a Alumitone (drop 4 oz). (Tuners are Res O Lite. Alloy neck plate. Chrome plated aluminum knobs. Already)

I've got a Warmoth solid Koa Jazz Bass with a Warmoth 100% all rosewood neck that's 11 lbs.

Honestly, I don't want to know. I suspect it will weigh more than I want. So it's best to just not know.

Who knows... I just play them. And sometimes I hit hard to get the sound out.
