How not to stretch strings

that's pretty much how I do it. I usually use a "purple nurple" twisting motion. You can feel the strings stretching, and feel when they've mostly stopped stretching. Using only 2 wraps on the tuner, the E string will drop more than a whole tone after one quick stretch.

We've seen that first vid before, and "yank on it - as much as you can for two minutes ... I like to take out my frustrations on it".
Not on my basses you don't.

When I change strings I do give some light tugs to help tighten the strings at the tuner much like Scott, but that's about it.

Big difference between what Scott recommends and what knucklehead did. :)

My parting message is: do some sane stretching. Not like knucklehead, but like Scott. It really does make a difference,
and it doesn't damage the strings. The people out there who say they tune up a couple of times and they're done - I have to say - nah, not possible. Maybe you're not hearing it, but with just two tune ups and no stretching, your strings are out of tune after a few minutes of play.
