How Old is to Old

Just sitting here thinking so hear is my question. I’m 56 almost 57 and I play gospel. I’m wanting to either start a band or join one. How old is to old? Just want to hear some thoughts and opinions.
I'm 55 and play in a regular working band. We are a 6 piece outfit and with the exception of one of our guitarists I am the youngest person in the band and the only one without grandchildren. We have A LOT of fun!! :-)

60, play bass for our mega church band, livestream, TV, Live RADIO, Live Internet.
Funny...I just asked myself this week “I wonder when they’ll replace me with a teen...” lol. I’m looking at starting up a modern Blues band with my buddy. I’m not planning on quitting playing/gigging at any age. I still get calls to fill in.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU PLAY. AS LONG AS YOU LIKE TO DO IT . I AM TO BE 62 IN JULY AND I PLAY WITH TWO BANDS . YOU FOLLOW YOUR GOALS AND YOUR LIKES . GOOD LUCK

The "old" question seems relative. I'm going on 68. I have friends who bask in the fact they are 70 and tell me I don't know what old is. It's like a competition for them....frankly I don't get it. Mentally I still feel very much the same as in my 20's. Most kids I meet are more serious than I ever was. No doubt the body ages, that is apparent to me,.but hopefully I continue to love good music and feel excitement when checking out great looking basses, guitars, cars and pretty girls. If I have picked up any wisdom along the way it is this......stay engaged ! (:

Yep!! I recently asked my 96 year old father "when do you stop eyeing off girls in the street?" he said "I don't know? You will have to ask somebody older than me. :-)"

I am 59 and very active on stage, not one to stand still and play. Between that and the band not having any roadies, the best thing I can tell you is, just like working out, the day after a gig is going to hurt. It keeps you in shape. A lighter-weight bass can help, as does a wider strap.

My band (mostly Classic Rock) wanted to book two nights in a row at one point, and one guitar player and I had to veto that. We both felt that our hands wouldn't be where they needed to be on the second day. I've done two gigs in the same day, (probably 5 hours total playing time and using stage PA at the first show) and that is easier than two days in a row.

We're like children at play and all the years of music under our belts makes it effortless. AWESOME!

You have the advantage of playing gospel music: something you love and believe in. That will help keep you young. Playing music you love is much better than playing in bands with too much drama and "personalities". I just discovered gospel music. Some of those drummers absolutely cook! And the bass playing is tasty. That is music you can get excited about. Forget about age. Most of my favorite bass players are "seasoned" (older).

At 50 all I was playing was church gigs. was out one day with my bride and saw an irsh band playing. Knew the mandolin player and made a couple of comments that they need a bass player. Did not know that he had just left. Got a call a couple of weeks later from my friend. Said the band leader wanted to meet and bring my bass. 12 years later still playing with them. never had more than 20 minutes practice after the first meeting. Just told see you Friday night. Still playing 3 to 5 times a week with these guys, plus can still do Sunday mornigs. At 62 years young planning on playing till the dirt hits my face.

You're not out of it as long as you still feel like playing and don't have obvious disabilities. In fact, smart young players may begin to seek you out because of your knowledge of how it went down.
