How to stop Tinnitus

Mine is from being on Cipro for a month (ototoxic) years ago. There are things that make it worse, so not doing those things makes it "better", but I don't believe anything would make it go away. I believe it does go away sometimes (perhaps depending on cause), but not because of a cure.

I had tinnitus in my right ear because it was too close to the drummer's cymbal on a small stage. It drove me crazy for about a year. I read a book called "The Ringing Sound" by Eric Gustafson. He said that there was a form of yoga meditation that considered it lucky if you could hear ringing because it was the sound of the cosmos that not everyone could hear. He said to focus on the ringing like a mantra instead of trying to ignore it. Sometimes when I focused on the ringing, I could move it from ear to ear or make it disappear. In any event, I stopped worrying about it, and it went away after a few years. It either went away or my brain decided to ignore the noise. Apparently the heart, lungs, muscles, and joints all make noise that the brain tunes out.

There was a mob, in 2013, who took up the cudgels trying to tap this stimulating potential, in a very scientific manner.

In 2021, nobody seems to be any closer to the stated goal. Nothing forthcoming back then. I wonder how they're going today? Not good's my guess

The same way companies profit from people not rolling their own cigarettes, making their own french fries, baking their own bread, etc., etc., etc.

'My ENT doc said if there was a cure, he'd long since have been retired. He was in his mid 30s. Seriously, there is no cure.

EXACTLY. I avoid all videos or click bait that claim to have a "simple trick," "30 seconds to cure X," or suggest that "they don't want you to know this."

What I find amazing is that we are 25 years into the Internet and people STILL fall for this horse manure.

@Swipter you might have:
External auditory exostoses. Also called surfer's ear, this type of exostosis is caused by chronic cold water exposure. It's a buildup of bone growth in the external ear canal. There are usually no symptoms but people with surfer's ear may have hearing loss, ear infections, ear drainage, and earwax impaction.

You don't have to be a surfer to get it, but usually repeated exposure to cold air/water is involved. I don't surf frequently enough to have this, but know many who do, and some who have had the surgery to correct it. It sounds nasty, essentially boring out the ear canal.

Yes to all of that but I thought some was the drummer on that side and motorcycle riding. I'm sure you are correct. I get ear infections but only on the outer canal and in that ear. It's stupid. I always know when spring is coming.
