How would you handle this

USA g&l LB 100 less than a year old suddenly went dead a few weeks ago. Brought it to my dealer where I purchased and who has received good reviews. They diagnosed it as a "bad pickup" shocking considering how many fenders I beat the snot out of and they always plugged in and made the sounds I like ..was without an instrument for 2 weeks(new pickup from California I understand no way around that) not only does it eat me alive that they had to take it apart already but also was returned playing like crap and there is now a gap between the pick guard and the body by the vol and tone knob as if it is buckled away from the wood. Fret buzz everywhere after 7th frets..was awesome from the factory and now I honestly want to pull my hair out and..its never over now I have to find someone to fix it and pay..it is becoming a very expensive bass.

The store you bought it from obviously knows nothing about setting up/repairing G&L basses.

Call G&L...ask what to do.

Worst case scenario, you'll take it somewhere else (where they know how to work on basses) and pay for a setup. There is nothing seriously wrong with your bass, it just needs to be dialed in. It's a nice bass.

they won't return it because now it is used. I don't know if it's just me but my stuff always gets screwed up in situations like this . Oh and now it started buzzing with the tone full on and stops when I touch the tone knob with my finger..a high end shop that can't handle a p bass pickup swap..I'm beyond mad..I don't know if I should just send it back to g&l

Yea thanks for the good words..ill call them tomorrow. At one time I loved this bass

The issues happened because the pickup stopped working which is on G&L. If it didn't need a pickup replacement everything would be fine. Because of that call them up and find a local authorized repair center and see if you can get it fixed for free from them.

Spoke with g&l..they will not pay for repairs if I bring it somewhere else..at this point I need to get it resolved even if I have to pay or else I have a case full of firewood...beyond pissed. More labor into this bass

Take it to a better tech if you are getting buzz above the 7th fret it is a sign of too much back bow. A truss rod adjustment and second set of eyes on the instrument can do wonders. Look up reviews in your area of luthiers find the best one pay about 40 bucks for a setup 9and diagnosis. Easy here no need to fret super easy fix sometimes certain aesthetics or setups are favored with certain techs when it should be set up for you. A good tech will want to know how you play and what you play

I agree..I just don't know why a truss rod adjustment would be needed now..it didn't need anything but the broken pickup to be swapped out when I dropped it off. The instrument played how I wanted from the factory

Take it back to the dealer. Be respectful but demanding with THE MANAGER. He needs to get the best/right tech on this, and without the wait, as you already did your time. You might let him know that alot of folks on TB are following your plight and would like to know what shop you're dealing with, too.

The dealer should get the bass back into tip-top playing condition, they owe it to you, but this is a perfect time to advocate learning how to do your own setups. This could be easily remedied while you watch an episode of Seinfeld. I highly recommend reading through Jerzy Drozd's setup guide in the future, it is the best free resource on the internet.

Dude...you just need a setup and to fix what sounds like a ground fault from when they did the pickup swap. Sucks that the shop did this to you, but this is a calibration/setup issue and far from a "firewood" issue. I doubt the wood warped or any lasting damage happened that ruined this instrument. You gotta try pretty hard to kill a bass.

I second what everybody else has said... Though it seems like a simple setup issue, the dealer should make it right and get the bass back into playable shape for you. It sucks that they messed up your bass and wasted a ton of your time and money, so I understand your frustration! I would be polite but firm and make it clear that he or she is going to lose all of your and your friends' future business unless the issue is resolved to your satisfaction. If they don't care, I would think it fair to post their shop name here and let everyone know they might want to steer clear of that shop.
