HPF/LPF list- which do you use or know about?

Italian brand Acus Sound Engineering, Sito web ufficiale,Official web site has in their catalogue an interesting 3-channel bass/DB/cello combo: One forBass
It folds a 10" High Excursion woofer
"Each channel also features of separate Volume and BSS Filter (High-Pass) to have the maximum control on sound. " but I can't find the freq. range and the slope.

Adding a couple of amps to the list. I've had this confirmed by tech support at both Orange and Ashdown, and have scoped the ABM to confirm it.

Ashdown's ABM series has a steep HPF as standard, it starts to work at around 30hz. I was only told that the ABM that has the HPF, but haven't had a MAG or RM series amp to test.

All of Orange's bass amps (and the new Bass Butler preamp) have a steep HPF which starts to cut at 30hz. Includes everything from the crush range to the big heads.

I don't know what order (db/octave) they are but they are described as steep and the purpose is to filter out subsonics without interfering with your sound /tone. It is hard to scope & measure accurately down below 30z, but it does look like a steep drop off on the ABM, so my guess (and that's all it is) would be that it is at least 18db/oct.

(As you can see, I've been a fan of HPFs for a very long time ;) )

I was shopping for a similar HPF than what i use for my upright and came across this thread.. I did not know that! Since I pretty much gig with either a Shuttlemax 9.2 or Streamliner, I guess I can save my cash! Or.. reappropriate it to other "needs", at least ;)

Really? Like right after my tuner? I would have thought otherwise. Like what if my effects add back in a boatload of low frequencies that I don't want? Or what if the HPF signal doesn't trigger my effects in the same way it used to? Maybe I'm worried for nothing?

Resurrecting this discussion, I have a question I haven't seen asked, but I can't imagine it has already been asked somewhere (and maybe it's a dumb question):

Would it be possible to add a passive variable HPF to the bass guitar circuitry that would be just as effective as these active pedals?
 
I use a simple EQ based cab sim in my "amp-less" setup, which, in lack of a dedicated LPF/HPF pedal, consists of one of the bass specific 2 band fully parametric equalizer models in my Zoom MS-70CDR multi stomp box, set to [12kHz Q=1 Cut=-18dB ; 20kHz Q=0.5 Cut=-20dB], which effectively functions as a LPF set to a cut off point of approximately 3.5kHz with an approximately -12dB/Oct slope, and then the build in fixed @ 40Hz -12dB/Oct HPF of my ART Tube MP Project Series tube preamp.

No, not even close IMO.
 
Preamps such as this BAE 1084 have a HPF. It’s a Neve clone with wider tonal control over the classic Neve 1073. The HPF is passive using capacitors inductors and resistors.

3 Band Equaliser
HF:+/-16dB fixed frequency shelving at 10kHz, 12kHz and 16kHz
LF: +/-16dB shelving with selectable frequencies of 35Hz, 60Hz, 110Hz & 220Hz
MF: +/-18dB peaking, fixed 'Q' with, selectable centre frequencies of 0.36kHz, 0.7kHz, 1.6kHz, 3.2kHz, 4.8kHz & 7.2kHz

High Pass Filter
45Hz, 70Hz, 160Hz & 360Hz

Low Pass Filter
6kHz, 8kHz, 10kHz, 14kHz, & 18kHz

AMS-Neve produces similar products. A number of other companies make similar Neve clones that sound good, one is AML.

Note that while the HPF appears passive, it’s very dependent on the low impedance active stage before it and the high impedance active stage following it.

Also, that’s a very expensive way to do a filter if you want to do it well, the inductor is not a cheap part and for many applications it needs to be a shielded part too.

Yes, pre and post conditioning circuits are sometimes needed. Cost is very high. There are engineering challenges in these old designs. There are certainly easier ways to implement a -18dB/octave filter. But there’s something about the sound quality of these type of Neve based products that I like.
