Has anybody here covered Shai's "If I Ever Fall In Love"? It was huge back then, but seems to be almost forgotten today, plus the vocal harmonies would make it difficult to cover. The early 90s had quite a bit of stuff like this.
Was that song actually popular outside the U.S.? I don't think I've ever heard it before (although the name Shai sounds familiar - probably from reading Rolling Stone in the 90s). If I did it was in one ear and out the other.
Might just have been US - I started this thread because a Scottish FB friend who should be old enough to remember this has never heard of it.
Dude. Like my favorite Heart Song (tied with Little Queen) -- I especially like the version from The Road Home: Goosebumps every time. One of my top 10 favorite albums. Yup, the same guy who puts God Hates Us All on his top 10 albums. That's me.
On Topic: I have never seen or heard covers of these iconic (in my mind) rock tunes: David Essex -- Rock On The Outfield -- Your Love anything by Warren Zevon (I always thought a Warren Zevon 'tribute' band would be awesome ...... No one else seems to think so ......)
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing Van Halen - Jump Somebody - Bryan Adams ...just a few off the top of my head from the '80s...should be classic enough hits?
My last band covered Your Love and Werewolves Of London. How about Roller by April Wine? I never hear bands play that song. I played it when it was new. Great rock song.
I've been in a couple of bands and an acoustic duo that used to cover this one. It did well with mainstream audiences. It is strange more bands didn't cover it. Many cover bands in my area are very selective about the number of ballads they are willing to include in a typical show at the expense of uptempo dance tunes. It has to be something 100% guaranteed to get the stuffed shirt dudes on the floor.
I've been in a couple of bands that cover this one, including my current band. If you're lucky enough to have a few good singers who can get that tight harmony down, it's a treat for the audience. We sound check vocals with the chorus and bridge right before downbeat, and it gets the audience's full attention and revs them up for the party. It's like a little opening act.
One of the last great things they did, awesome tune. Ever notice the bass clam they left in at 5:51? lol, I've heard it so many times it almost sounds "correct" now. Those vocals though, wow, Sweet is hard to cover. I've been in bands that did "Fox On The Run," it's actually halfway obtainable.
According to the Billboard charts, that song was also a #2 Pop Chart hit as well as a #2 R&B hit in 1992 but I don't remember ever hearing it before.
