I'd venture to say, just about any Grateful Dead covers are rare. I could never get any band I was with to try them. Truckin' and Sugar Magnolia have nice harmonies and were both hits; probably harder to play than Casey Jones or Friend of the Devil.

You know, it's not my particular favorite genre, but I do dig a lot of it. I always thought that an 80s post-punk cover group would absolutely slay the crowds. You just need some serious effects handy.
I've got a real hankering to do that one.

Yeah, I would say Truckin' is harder than Casey Jones or Friend of the Devil, and Sugar Mag definitely is. What about Alabama Get Away? That was a radio hit and is a bona fide rocker.
But there are bands that do these tunes- Dead cover bands. I play all of these tunes except Alabama Get Away.

I know how heartbroken you are by that news.Different ears, different amount of wax, it really doesn't matter to me, but the chord is an F and the bass plays an A (the major 3rd? why? He never does that any other time they go to an F), which may have been done intentionally, and I suppose anything in the creative arts can be called "right," but I see it as a flub, because when he walks it down to the Dm he grabs and starts strong and confident from the F he should have grabbed the first time. Plus that A note is very subdued, almost buried in the mix (which is what I try to do when I'm a little lost and hit a clam).
But like I said, after 20,000,000 listens now, I don't really hear it as a clam either. Lots of clams made the final mix in many a pop song.

I tried to get so many bands I was in to do this song but none ever would. It always reverted to the usual done-to-death covers. Reason #437 I quit playing in Classic Rock Bands...
The band I played in back when I was in college did Somebody. But that was back when then song was a current hit.
Of course, that version IS a cover.
EDIT - and, now that I think about it, Manfred Mann also covered two other songs from Springsteen's Greetings from Asbury Park - For You and Spirit in the Night.

We tried Lunatic Fringe and never played it out. It just doesn't groove like Seger's Her Strut which we added about 3 months ago.
