anything by Warren Zevon

(I always thought a Warren Zevon 'tribute' band would be awesome ...... No one else seems to think so ......)

Was that song actually popular outside the U.S.? I don't think I've ever heard it before (although the name Shai sounds familiar - probably from reading Rolling Stone in the 90s). If I did it was in one ear and out the other.

There's a good reason, To do that number well, you have to be able to REALLY sing. Not just kinda sing - you need to be good.

That's a problem for a lot of big hits; people have a very clear impression of the original. Fr example: anyone who is brave enough to tackle CSNY's Suite: Judy Blue Eyes better be one helluva great singing group.

My high school band covered Pictures at an Exhibition, lol. We actually played a band score that was pretty close to Ravel's orchestration, and we *slayed* it. Unbeaten that year in concert band competitions, including a gold medal in a prestigious international band competition. What a great piece of music. Of course we all listened to ELP's version, which took a lot of liberties with the original, and Tomita's version which was surprisingly close to the score.

My band does Hungry Like the Wolf

That's so awesome. I've wanted to cover Duran Duran for years. No band I've been in wants to touch it. Unfortunate because they have so many great songs, and "Hungry like the wolf" is a classic. Kudos.

I would want to do "Rio" or "The reflex" if I had the chance

Has anybody here covered Shai's "If I Ever Fall In Love"?



It was huge back then, but seems to be almost forgotten today, plus the vocal harmonies would make it difficult to cover. The early 90s had quite a bit of stuff like this.

I must say I have never heard this song, either. I managed a record store all through the 90's, but we were mainly punk/metal/NPR/alternative stuff. We did sell a good amount of mainstream pop, but none of us paid any attention to it. I do remember the album cover art, though.

I was in a cover band in '86 that did "Fox on the Run" - Sweet. Damn, those harmonies were like Uriah Heep....Now THERE are some songs that few ever do....

Man, another great song. And fairly easy to play, although the vocals I imagine were the hardest part.
