I don't know. I've seen a large part of a Hollywood Vampires show on YT and by and large, I enjoyed it.

The fascinating bit was how well he held his own. It felt legit. Sure, he's not a virtuoso guitar wizard, and his singing voice is far from Pavarotti, but seeing a famous Hollywood actor on stage with a rock band invited cringe at first - one would assume they used their fame to get a slice of the nicer parts of the rock star life, standing on stage while being completely carried by professionals - it did not feel that way.

Personally can't stand the guy for a lot of reasons, but he looks like what a Hollywood costume department would come up with as a "bad boy rock and roller." It all feels so contrived.

The pettiness and jealousy masquerading as "protecting the integrity of the music" on display here is baffling. Why do some people feel threatened by another person's success?

I don't understand this thread at all. What is with all of the judgment for someone doing something he loves? If you did a bit of research, you'd know that music was his main passion way before his acting career took off. I find it odd that a bunch of musicians, many of who only do this because they love it, would rip on someone for doing the same. Good for him to be able to play with friends and other musicians.

As someone who spends some time here and The Gear Page, the vocal bass players weirdly seem worse than the vocal guitar players. It might be because there is probably higher percentage of people on this site playing instruments with others outside of their house.

I have to turn down projects a mediocre guitar/bass player and vocalist. I'd probably make some people furious with my mediocrity. Some really good people want me to play with them. Being dependable/responsible, being a good band member, decent timing, and having good stage presence are my strengths (songwriting used to be back in there when I was wasn't just playing other people's music). There are tons of people better than me. A few of them are the types of people others want in bands. Most aren't worth their ability.

Depp seems fine. He probably gets butts in seats on tours and sells albums. That's valuable to people trying to sustain a reasonable income and engagement off their work.

I mean he played guitar before he became an actor, so saying he is just a rich poser is probably unfair. He's done it for longer than he's been rich. He has also played on albums by Iggy Pop, Shane MacGowan, Oasis, Aerosmith, and played with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry in a band. So I mean he's more of a musician than me.
Does that mean he is good, or that you should listen to him. I don't know, but I'm not going to fault someone for having more than one thing they enjoy doing.

No one is being forced to listen or attend a concert. If people enjoy seeing him in person and play guitar, more power to them. We should all be so fortunate.

one of the best guitarists i know - a legitimate brilliant jazz fusion player - saw him on this tour with jeff beck.

he said he did a nice job and it was cool. johnny is not going to blow your mind, but he's not a "complete hack."

you could walk around thinking "he was an actor so that's that" or that mike stern is "just a rich kid," but i'm not sure that perspective has a ton of value.

if someone is a hack, you'll know right away anyway.
