I am 100% all Fender now

Probably boring to most of you, but I'm very happy with the assortment. I say all Fender, but my Squier is officially a Squier. Although it outperforms many Fenders (and says Fender in tiny letters on the headstock)...

The least-identifiable one is the black American Standard Jazz I bought new in 2000.

Everyone except Flea has swapped pickups.

Fender makes a nice bass that works. If I was doing all Fender, I'd probably have a regular P, single coil P, 60s jazz, 70s jazz, PJ, and then something like a Dimension, Flea sig with hum bucker or Meteora.

Squier CV or VM's are tremendous values and great playing basses...
...But you need a 5 string dude !

I'm also all Fender now, though it happened quite inadvertently:

One American Standard P, one Special Noir P, and an Aerodyne Jazz. In addition, my amps are all Fender as well: One Rumble 500 with 210 extension cab, one Rumble 40, one Rumble 15 and a Rumble Studio 40.

A very nice selection indeed. I particularly like the look of a fender bass with cream pickup covers against a dark pickguard. I also love the look of CAR/rosewood/black on the Nate Mendel. As far as off-the-shelf P bass goes, that one just does it for me.

The only Fender I have at the moment is a CS '59 P which is a really great, albeit very 'dark' sounding bass. I picked it up second hand 4 years ago, and it's definitely a keeper. The P pickup on my BB3000 sounds a smidgen better for fingerstyle ( it has a more open-sounding '70's P vibe to it ), but the CS '59 sounds better with a pick (go figure) and records beautifully.

I currently have my sights on an MIJ heritage 70's jazz, which for my money seems to be the best value 70's Fender jazz bass on the market (next to the Squier CV '70's jazz - though can't get a Squier with an A grade ash body )

If you've replaced the pickups ( the most important part in making sound) you're not 100% Fender. Call it 80%.

I've had a couple dozen basses in my lifetime, with A Fender neck and a couple Fender pickups being the only Fender content. At this point, I'm 0% Fender. Pretty sure if that number.

How do you like the Mendel with the Fralin? I had a Mendel for a short while, but could not get along with the Quarter Pounder.

Hmmmm ... If it was Leo Fender influenced I'd be 100%. 77 P, 88 Stingray, 98 G&L 1500 and a 500C Rumble with the 210 extension cab. My 72 SVT with Fridge stands in the basement for now.

I have owned around 80 basses ... one was a real Fender ... many were Fender style but only one was a real Fender

The Matt Freeman sig is a shockingly good bass. After modding, it now is a great bass.
I've unsuccessfully tried bonding with two 5 stringers. I also don't have a band where one would fit.

I'm running these through two camps of amps. SVT/big cabs and then Mesa Boogie Subway lightweight amps/cabs.

Fair enough, but the Mendel sig had a stock Quarter Pounder and the Fralin def sounds more authentic.

How do you like the Mendel with the Fralin? I had a Mendel for a short while, but could not get along with the Quarter Pounder.

The Nate plays amazing, looks fantastic, and the Fralin tone completes the package. I love it now.

The Matt Freeman Pbass cost $379 new. When I swapped the PU, Hipshot tuners, Tone Styler and glowing numbered knobs, the mods nearly cost more than the bass. It now plays, feels, and sounds great.
The black Am Std Jazz with the Antiquity IIs is the best recording bass I've ever heard. Always sounds good, but kind of a boat anchor at almost 10 lbs.
