I Can't Keep a Foundation

This time I gave it away. A young drummer at my church had been wanting to learn bass, but he is financially challenged. I gave him a black Foundation I picked up two days after Christmas. The young fellow was so happy that seven hours later, I'm still smiling inside!

I have gotten more pleasure out of giving that bass away than I have gotten from buying almost any bass I have ever owned. I had cold feet about giving it away for a moment, but when I saw how happy he was, I knew I did the right thing.

The funny thing is that just a few days ago, I was constantly thinking about what bass I should buy. I prayed about it, and decided that I should not buy a bass at that time (tomorrow I may buy something for all I know.) I had wanted to give that kid a bass for a long time, but I kept saying wait until I get my perfect bass. Once I decided not to buy another bass, I looked at what I use, a Squier VM Precision V and a US Peavey Cirrus four, and I decided that I surely could afford to give up my Foundation.

I guess I am saying don't put off blessing others, you are robbing yourself even worse than the person you could help.

Pay it forward. Great quality to have, great trait to pass on to younger generations, and sorely missing these days.

Not only did he get a great bass, but a great start to a lifelong (if he sticks with it) passion, and a good example to live by. I wish I could spend all my money so well.

A friend of mine who inspired me to pick up the bass, also gave me an old Sears Silvertone amp. This thread just reminded me of how great that was, and how grateful I was, and the great things it led to for me. That was 35 years ago. Giving that kid a bass could be a life-changing event for all concerned.

On top of that...I'll bet his mom will be glad he's switching from drums to bass
