The EBMM Bongo is sexy!

There is no question about it. I have never had a bass that I have enjoyed this much.

I got my Bongo 5HH on Wednesday. I had it sent to my work address and when I opened it both of the women that work in the front office could not stop talking about how great the bass looked. I have had a few basses shipped there and they never have reacted this way. In fact, they never seem to care.

I went and plugged the bass up and really loved the sound of it. I was really digging the pre amp and the ability to shape everything! Low mid, high mid, treble, and bass. It's got a SUPER powerful preamp and sounds wonderful. Unfortunately I had to go to a night class so I left and came back later that night for band practice. I was looking forward to utilizing the 4 band pre at band practice. This is for my church's Sunday morning service. I set the Pre flat and I didn't adjust it all night. Worked perfectly and was very "supportive" of the mix. Also, the low B is to die for!

I played the bass this morning at church and got a ton of compliments on both the look and sound.

I guess I was a bass snob before. I didn't want a bass made of basswood, even though I've had a couple that have sounded great. Just the stigma of listening to people with opinions I guess. The Bongo is great, basswood and all!

The Bongo is perfect for me even though it has a combination of things that I never sought out in a bass:
1. Basswood body
2. 17.5mm spacing (thought I had to have 19)
3. A painted neck
4. Odd body shape

The bass play well, looks great, sounds amazing, and is rock solid.

I couldn't be happier!!!

Well, since you don't care, I STILL think it looks like it was made from a toilet lid! At least it doesn't look like a Fender. That's what's the lid is hiding! :hyper:

I'm tired and over-medicated so I'll log off now. If it's got the sound you like, that's all that matters, enjoy!

The painted neck was the part I couldn't get past. Really didn't like the feel but maybe I should give them another try. The electronics in an SR5 would be cool, IMHO but I'm not trying to start a special run or any thing like that. Just saying it would be cool.

That's one thing that always kept me away from them to. It has a satin finish though, and I really like it! :)

I've played Bongos before. They sound and play nice, weigh next to nothing, and look like nothing else. Whats not to love?

I'd get a stealth bongo if I had the scratch. :)

This one is actually semi-heavy. I'm not complaining though, I like the weight. :)

I think they look cool...but not sexy. I think my flamed maple Ibanez SR1200 is dead sexay...all slim and slender with those subtle contours...ahem, sorry.
But that Bongo is like all bold an brash and dosent care what people say about its funky shape, its doin its own thing man, with it painted burgundy neck with its pearl pick guard and black hardware...its cool!

Well, I not really into the looks of the Bongo, but I appreciate EBMM to do something totally different. And I like that you don't care what others say. I bet the Bongo has a great sound though. And I really like the other EBMM that looks different, the Big Al, which has probably as many "haters".

I bet there would be a lot less ribbing and criticism about this bass if it had been named decently.

Bongo sounds dumb, irrelevant, and doesn't in any way conjure up images of or represent the look and design philosophy of these instruments.

Don't get me started on the Big Al. Sounds like it should be a pizza joint or something, and when you see the bass after hearing the name you are left equally baffled by the dissonance.

As a matter of fact, while I'm on a hating spree, I'd go so far as to say EBMM hasn't come up with a decent name, ever. Stingray has got to be one of the greatest names ever conceived for a bass (or aquatic animal or car). The others? Not so much...
