I've also come full circle... I used a P in the 70s, then went through a long series of jazz and uber jazz basses, but for the past five years, it's been mostly Ps for me. And, I'm doing modern music with the P, not oldies (i'm definitely not an oldies player even though I'm getting kinda old).

Here's my current player... I like my necks wide and thin.

Same here.......I'm old, but mainly play top 40 country. Nice looking bass and the pic even sounds good.

If any of you have a P and "it isn't for you", box it up and send it to me. I will provide a safe and caring foster home for it. I will even gig with it now and again so it still feels useful and loved.
Homeless Ps are a heart breaking problem and I am fighting to combat that.

I've got a Godin, a Jag shorty and a crappy Greg Bennett shorty with a cut down body to make a travel bass. All of them are P/J passives. It is extremely rare that I use the J pup. On the travel bass the J pup isn't even connected. I'm thinking one day I'd like to get a proper P but I can't stand the neck on them. This above is what i'll be looking for.

I agree with you, but as I said, I love going to GC and indulging myself, and I play Fender Ps more often than anything. Forgive me; I'm still a relative n00b!

That sound is fine and glad you like it. I don't have anything against P-Basses or that sound: I personally like basses that can do that voicing when I need to utilize it but also be capable of doing other voices as needed, which I use more often actually (like a typical Jazz setting).....

.....Not pointing a finger at you, per se, but it just seems every other week we have a "Yay for P-Basses Thread" where some P-bass players feel the need to justify themselves and the P-Bass ...its becoming predictable

If anyone had told me 2 years ago that I would be playing Fenders again, I would have said they were wrong. My current project pretty much requires a P-bass,and after I got the first one,it wasn't enough.
Got a second P identical to the first as a backup, then a Select P,now last week I finally got a Tony Franklin fretless. All strung with Chromes. Life is good.
