I've been the lead singer of a band now for 8 months. Every thing was going fine. we recorded our cd and were playing bigger shows. Recently we decided to let go of our bassist because of a lot of ongoing problems. Now i am the bassist/lead singer. I have my bass but i only have a practice amp. I dont know too much about cabs and heads, im kind of in a rush to buy equipment. what the hell should i get????

looking to spend about $700 total. I definately noticed that doesnt get you far with bass cabs. Our style is more of punk/alternative
well, you can always buy a nice start to a rig and then upgrade later. my personal suggestion is that you find a used GK 800RB and a 4x10, and then eventually add a 1x15
$700!!! choices are slim... your in the used market.
500 to 700 peeps....id say an 810 cab with a choice head... $700 wont get ya there. you might have to sell your mics...and your car.... i'd lend ya my gear, depending on how hot your girlfriend is!!!?
we'll i am selling my old fender jass 5 string bass and an ibanez guitar. but no one is biting yet
Used used used. There's a used peavey 410 for $150 and 350w head for $100 in my area on Craigslist right now.

The best you're gonna be able to do (as far as power and quality per dollar) for that amount of money is a used Galien Krueger 700RB or 800RB and a used 4x10.

Of course you never know what kind of sweethear deal you MIGHT stumble into, so by all means keep your eyes open, search the Bay, Craigslist and everywhere else you can think of. You're gonna want at least 300 watts at 4 ohms (more is better) and a multi-driver (4x10, 2x12) cabinet that can handle what your head puts out.
I recommend staying away from the GK Backline series, and do NOT be seduced by the apparent value of Behringer equipment. Just my opinion, of course.

By the way. My experience with Ashdown is bad.
I used a MAG350 (I think) head on top of a 6x10 cabinet at a venue (100 people) And I cranked it to the top. Stood 2 meters away from the rig and still couldn't hear myself. Just my two cents.
