Welp, that was a journey. I agree no rings and I wanna big headstock cause it's classic but I'm real curious what the tele headstock would look like on a bronco...
Also what do you use to cut out your pickguards?

I need to listen to some clips from the G&L Fallout basses and see how the MFD sounds with short scale
I know the conversation has moved on, but just for curiosity's sake, here are short scale LaBellas with an MFD:
With rings it looks like a guitar and without rings it looks like a bass so I vote for without.Body is routed and wiring channel drilled. If I go with the Gibson switch I’ll have to route further , but I could go stack knob or straight “vol-vol” currently.
Now I’m deciding whether to go with trim rings on the pickups, or without ….
( Im leaning “slightly” toward using the trim rings )

The bass being tiny, I would go ahead with the tele head, it would look more balanced to me.Basic mock up of how it’s gonna go …two thunderbird pickups. I’m thinking it will have a Gibson style pickup selector switch in the lower horn…..but I may go simple and just keep the controls V-V . Probably the switch though. I may also make a metal control plate for it, kinda like a mustang bass. Hmmm …
I’m also considering cutting the headstock into a Tele style. Thoughts ?

This project isn't just going to produce the most badass bronco going, it's inspirational. I've only dabbled in mods but watching someone take a bass like this and make it not simply unique but also exactly what they want it to be for them makes me want to get the tools and start learning how to get it done. I'm sure there would be mistakes and mishaps on the way but it looks like so much fun!
I make a routing template from mdf. Then I rough cut the Pickguard n with the bandsaw. Attach the rough cut guard to the template and then route it
My 0.02¢...no rings. It looks cleaner and less busy.
As for the headstock, will carving even more weight off an already lightweight bass affect it's resonance in any perceivable way? (A possibly dumb questions, but I'm always learning more, so I'll stick my neck out and play "Devil's Advocate".

Perceivable is the appropriate question. Any change like that will have some effect, is it noticeable? Bad? Good? I don't know if you can predict cause of all the other variables.
Personally I wouldn't carve it cause I like the look of the stock head. Might paint the face of it black though...

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks! I cut mine out using the dremel with a cut-off wheel, then hand sanding the edges. Came out okay but figured a band saw would be easier/less tedious/maybe safer?
Ok, I routed for the switch. I also decided not to do a “Tele” headstock, but instead just do one that was more to my liking. Smaller than the original, but more unique.
Anyway, here’s where it stands currently….
I need to spray finish on the headstock and back of neck where I modified it

Fret dressing

I love the shape of that headstock, looks classy AND modern to me.
In fact, the regular Fender is too big and the tele shape is too small. Yours seems to be in between, clever design !
