I just ordered a Glarry....

Its a guitar for making exquisite bass sound for you to put on your family and friends.

From the kit version; "
3. If you want to play a better noise reduction，You can be pasted with copper foil paper to the positions such as the wires compartment and the pickup groove.
4. No welding is required during the entire installation process.

On order. Can’t wait to install it. I picked the Shurluck clouver grene with true imitation bone string fixing bridge.

The neck settled down overnight. I installed some EB Cobalt flats that I had laying around.

- tuner hole diameter 11/16" (~17mm)
- as suspected, no shielding other than a bit on the back of the PG.

That pick guard looks like it's made out of poster board. Thin, thin, thin. If it's standard size, I'd just order a new one, rather than wrapping it.

I just ordered lightweight black tuners (GB640), a black string retainer, and a black high mass bridge.

So, I'm up to xxxx now. I'm happy with that if I end up with a 7 lb P bass with little neck dive and GZR pickup.

I forgot that I had given the spouse the link to this thread. I'll put the real number in later. Let's just say I'm at a Squier Affinity price point

I'm wondering about that fretboard. In the picture of the stripped down bass, the upper register almost looks like it's just painted wood. I see grooves running perpendicular to the frets. Is this just an optical illusion?

The Glarry fretboards are some sort of composite material. I think Bruce Johnson has talked about this stuff somewhere before.
A "fake wood" as it were. It looks like it is layered on, like a 3d printer might do. The grooves are where the layering process was not quite perfectly done.
You can see the layers clearly when looking at the heel end of the neck

Not exotic stuff but I clean mine with naptha and use a VERY TINY bit of mineral oil and it looks more like real wood than it has a right to..
Too much oil and it looks shiny fake ish.

It's possible they are just applied by a brush, layer by layer. Those ridges look like brush strokes to me.

Probably the cheapest way to bond a fretboard to a bass neck. Paint it on.
