I know most don't like Gene Simmons.

Well, if family Jewels is saying so that seals it.:rollno:

Guys, I am out. I gave my opinion, tried to be objective, and never bashed the guy. In fact prasied him a few times but the Kiss Homers have proven to be too much for me. The frenzy you guys whip yourselves into to defend the guy is comical.

What does Family Jewels have to do witht he fact that he recogized an inversion???

I think that if you cant find at least SOMETHING to like about KISS' music, you take yourself wayyyy too seriously. They were a geat rock and roll band prior to 1979. Before KISS was KISS, they were Wicked Lester, a folk rock band that was very experimental. So before you shoot off that Gene and Paul have no musical foundation,..........

Sure, Gene can play, he is not terrrible and to any beginner bass player or someone who does not play, or the legions of Kiss homers he is great. But that was not the point.

The OP Kiss Homer stated that these fills that Simmons did were "Killer". They are not...end of story.

THIS SAYS IT ALL.

People are responding to the OP...some go to the extreme...yes.

My opinion is, he is not horrible..im sure hes better than me...But in none of the examples shown, was he Killer.
That is what the post was about...Gene Simmons' "killer" bass lines.

Well, at least thats done, now we can move on. :D

You are implying that they weren't a great band after 1979, and that's not true. With Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick they held their own against Whitesnake, Foriener, Def Leppard, Great White, Bon Jovi, and numerous other hair metal bands of the 80's. They still put on the best show out there, for a much lower ticket price.
Give it 10 years and all those great tunes they did in 80's will be appreciated. These things run in cycles, I think. But make no mistake about it, the show killed, Eric Carr killed and Bruce Kulick was every bit as good as Eddie Van Halen. I've seen them both front row, so I know. As the old Kiss shirt said "I WAS THERE"
:)

So you don't like the OP's choice of adjective.....

Petty much?

Never been impressed with McCartney. Never impressed me. I still don't believe that the Beatles recorded all of there own music. Ringo's poor drumming live proves that there has to be someone else playing on quite a few of thse songs! LOL!

I've seen many clips of the BEatles and Ringo sounds like Ringo so I'm not sure what you;re talking about.

McCartney doesn't impress you? You're not impressed with genius? Interesting.

Actually its the boards opinion and I would be willing to bet anything that any poll would prove that. So what are you going to do for an encore, discredit the whole forum?

I am sure to a beginner bass player those are killer fills. Anyone else just laughs at this stuff. And since this OP is notorious for being a Kiss homer and someone who starts the same topics over and over, saying the same things, I think he should be called out for it.
i've been playing pro for 35 years and i think a lot of gene's stuff IS killer. plus i love his tone. that's the sound of an angry svt. so there!

btw, polls are for people who can't make up their own minds.

People are getting crazy when Bruce Kulick and Gene Simmons are being compared to Ox and Eddie Van Halen. And if you dropped Wooten in Fall Out Boy I'm confident he could come up with a bassline that fits their stuff. Probably in about 5 or 6 mins. Give him a half hour, he probably could make them interesting with out ruining the rock vibe. That's what talented musicians are capable of doing. My 2 cents, Gene is a fair live bass player who turns into a douche when some one points a camara at him. Granted, he's a inspirational douche. JMO.
