lame is not an insult you rinser.
Okay, now you'll have to define rinser for those that don't speak Strine.

i have actually really wanted to make a thread about Aussie slang, its the best
'Rinser' - Someone who is annoying
'A few Roos (kangaroo) loose in the top paddock' - a bit strange or lacking mentally
'as mean as cats piss' - Mean, uncharitable, unhelpful
'dead as a dingos donger' - dry, dusty or old
'going for a dingos breakfast' - the ritual of waking up, having a wee, yawning then looking for food
'you dunny rat' - someone who is sly or cunning
'flat out like a lizard drinking' - really busy
'mate thats a shag (sex) on a rock' - duh, thats obvious
i could go on.
sorry for small derail.
impossible not to sig that."None of those people made thousands of girls scream and pee themselves to the point of creating rivers of piss flowing down the floor under the seats, all the while crying hysterically."
the yeti drops the mike, walks offstage. the end.
I perfer Stanley Clark 100x more... Not a Jaco fan but i respect him for sure...I'm really just not that into Jaco.
Now before the lynching begins, I do greatly respect what he has done as a bassist. I am completely aware of the impact he has has on our instrument.
I am just not a fan of his material. I have given many videos on Youtube of him an honest chance. I find it is lacking groove with a very undesirable tone.
In the interest of an open discussion, I will gladly watch an listen to anything that you may suggest. I honestly do want to find something of his that I can really latch onto, but so far, I haven't.
Does anyone else feel this way about any other trailblazing bassists?
The first few being, of course, terms of endearment and not insults.
Can you provide examples of Jaco losing the beat and not finding his place in the rhythm? If that is your definition of groove Jaco most certainly had it. The man could play almost any style with ease. He was hired by many band leaders for his grasp on rhythm. Zawinul didn't work with slouches. I am not even going to address the "who knows if those were his choices" statement as Jaco was hired for his abilities and not as a studio musician expected to deliver other people's parts.
Again, nobody who has built their name and reputation on groove can possibly be considered "without grove." How do you think people get hired or become name players in such groove heavy genres? It certainly isn't by lacking a groove. I stated my reasons for the absurdity of a notion, I am sorry if they were not clear enough.
That is not an attack on the person it is an indicator that they may not understand grooving. That is like me saying "Stephen Hawkins is terrible at physics." As a person who has no grasp on physics I lack the background to qualify such a statement. A person without groove could have a hard time discerning groove, it's not a diss it's an observation.
EDIT: I forgot to address your last question. Not everybody gets groove or likes to groove, nothing wrong with not enjoying Jaco's groove. If you don't find a swingin' 16th bass line groovin' the issue is not with the bass line or the player, it's with the listener.

Some drummers don't like Bonham.
Yep. Jaco was a visionary. He redefined the role of the instrument. But...
I stand by what I said. More people like JT than Jaco.
It's irrelevant who is better.
Meh, not a big deal. I'm not really into Rush and I'm Canadian, so I understand how you feel.![]()
you got it!
The Australian art of insulting is actually really odd. We call our mates c**ts and complete strangers "mate".
its very hard to tell when we're actually being insulting and meaning disrespect, because our language is so vulgar in the first place. Old mate Bucephylus didn't get it so ah, oh well![]()
My opinion, you sound like a hipster. "If you don't like him, you don't get it man!". You can't look at it that way and be taken seriously by me. Any "examples" or "evidence" would/will just be ignored by you but...
Any of the solos he does are disjointed and have no sense of groove (and he just about solos behind many "songs" too). Just wanking for wanking's sake, not a groove, not a statement of feeling.
Your opinion about him is way different than mine. Get over it. He's just not that good that he is universally loved. Period.
Just going to ignore anything else you have to say as it's just not worth my time to be insulted by someone such as you.
