I Miss The 2x15!

Well, they were very different critters.
The Bassman cab had two gray frame Jensens.
It sounded clear and full at low volumebut when you turned up to gig levels the low end got really weak but the mids and highs stayed nice and clear. The later 40" tall 212 Bassman cabs had much better low end.

The Showman cab had a surprisingly big tone for a cab of its size. Smooth lows and low mids with no apparent frequency bumps or dips.

I'd gladly use that rig today if I still had it. Although I'll admit that I'd rather have a quad 6L6GC Fender or Traynor head pushing it.

thats exactly the same kind of tone my Bassman 70 (square shaped cab) 2x15 got at gig levels greats mids and highs but very weak low end. I am looking at getting the Ashdown LB 30 to run with my Showman cab

Hands down the best of the modern 215's I think. I've played a few older Kustom 215, some newer 215 cabs and the 215xl lays it down and stays clears in the highs. Causes devastation with a b-string. I wish I could find a used one.

I agree with the posts that most 4x10's dont even get a second look next to a 2x15,, nothing to me even compares to a slightly over driven 2x15 cab...

with that being said I always wondered about running 2x18's with a small mid driver to enhance the sound,, but talk about WARMING the floor!!!!!

Back in the late '80s Peavey made the 3620 cabinet to go along with their MAX bi-amp bass head. It had 2 1801 18" Black Widows and 2 10" Scorpions.

I once work as a sound tech for a band where the lead vocalist played a Dynacord Rhythm Stick through a Peavey Max/3620. His stage volume was deafening and he consistently over ran the PA.

If you really wish to create a portable earthquake then find an old 3620.

I used to run an old Acoustic 2X15 loaded with EV's, driven by an SVT,...what a sound!!!! Still miss that heavy old rig. This past week I did a gig using my Bag End S15X-D and a Mesa single 15 cab with my Aggy 500sc. A whole different sound from my old rig, to be sure. But the dual 15 vibe still came through strong and clear! I've been considering selling the BE, but I may just have to change my mind on that now.

I still have a '70s Plush 2x15 cab - tuck and roll much like the Kustoms.
Must say it's pretty light for a 215. Much lighter than the Bassman or Sunn 215.

Sounds GREAT! The two speakers are separated by an additional horizontal brace, so the speakers are essentially in two separate compartments, with the "Buick" bullet ports for each. This brace holds the front rigid, so the face isn't moved by the speakers. Really a light, tight cabinet. Has old Altec 411-8As in it.

Yes, the 3620 definitely wins in that category.

Also, for me, in cool factor. Neither's really the cab for me, but I like the big huge ridiculousness of the 3620. But what's that cab got to do with this thread? This is about 2x15"s, which the 3620 does not qualify as, while the 1515/66 (is that the right way to describe that big fEarful cab?) does.

Not even close - 215s by Mesa, SWR, Berg, Trace Elliot, and even Peavey are all better than Hartke's 215, IMO... I currently have a Peavey 215D-BW that's Eminence loaded, and it'll crush any Hartke 215...

Bump on the Mesa 215. One of the few 15" cabs tight enough to be a stand alone, AND shake the walls.

This guy has EVM seriesll 15Ls and works for every situation. Our guitarist used it when his amp went down and it was spot on. I use it as a sub for DJ work. Run my GK MB200 through it and it just kills. All at about 85 pounds.

Yeah I have had this 700RB/115 combo since 1999. The other 115/RBH perfects it. I never see them for sale very often if ever. I lucked out getting the cab, I could of never afforded a new one.
The combo weighs about 77 Lbs. if I recall.

I bought a pair of new Hartke VX 215's from SAM ASH about 4 years ago and paid $500 for both. They are 4 Ohms and 500 W RMS so work with any head. They were recently discontinued but still appear on ebay. I recommend them.
