I Miss The 2x15!

So I figure this would be the place to ask it...
I have a chance to pick up a Mesa Road Ready 2x15 loaded with EVML speakers. What I was wondering is this the same as the Mesa Diesel cabs loaded with EV speakers everyone raves about?

using a kustom 2-15 tonight, loaded with a pair of original cone alnico jbl d-140's. for sure the band will be loud. a 200watt ampeg micro vr head, a P with labella flats. sure there are louder/deeper/"better" speakers these days, but nothing else can give you That tone. it is a one of a kind sound

This is one of the most fun-to-read posts I've enjoyed in quite a while. I'm out of hard drive space from copying all these great photos. Back to the original question, has anyone had experience playing two or three 1X15 combos linked together? I'd love to hear if anyone has linked the GK MB115 combos. Two 1X15s would be only $800 with 400 watts. Three would be interesting. And the old ad from Sunn saying 'easy movement at 200 pounds' made me wonder if anyone's noticed that when we were young and weighed 125 pounds we just had to have a 200# rig. But now that we weigh 200# we have to get a 30# rig? Life just ain't fair.

I recently picked up a yamaha b100 2x15 cab and I'm a convert... I think I will pick up another 2x15..... maybe a peavey, I've heard good things about the older ones
I transported my 2000s cab in the back of my small station wagon. It was pretty easy to load in as you just had to lay it down and push(it had a cover on it). It took up the entire area with the back seats laid down. Laid my Fender Jazz Bass on top.As much as I love the sound of a 2000S with JBL's, athough they have "Casters included for easy transport", the size and weight (I think the listed 200lbs is probably conservative for the 2000S) of them makes regular gigging with them pretty cumbersome.
My "go to" 215 cab for the last few years has been a smaller 40" X 24" X 15" Sunn 215S cab with EVM15L's.
IMO tight and fairly articulate, and even though the "L" stands for "lead", plenty of bottom end, but a little more defined than the EVM15B's in the same cab. Not exactly a lightweight at around 100 lbs, but a walk in the park compared to wrestling a 2000S cab around.
The 2000s rode in the passenger foot well leaned up against the seat. Anyone who rode with me had that big ole' thing between their legs. Guess that's why I traveled alone most of the time.
I played with a pick and always got a very clean, warm sound out of that rig. Never at a loss for volume.
I traded it for an Ampeg with a 2x15 (JBL D130's) so I could get more highs out my keyboard rig(Hammond M3/Fender Rhodes 88) I played for a couple of years.
Always regretted trading it but I needed the other rig to keep making money. Oh, well.
I picked up 2000s head a few years ago. Found a 2000s cab about a year after that in Boston or somewhere out there. Had it trucked to Los Angeles so I could reconstitute my original rig. Still sounds as good as did back then.
I also have a couple of Sunn 200s cabs with JBLs and a 200s head to go along with them. Those 4-15's move a lot of air.Oh, yeah. When I was shopping for a new rig(before the original Sunn 2000s) my local music store lent me a Standel 1x15 combo and a powered 2x15 cab for one gig. I think is was about 200 SS watts. The thing stood around 6'2". Sounded okay with my '63 Hofner Beatle bass. Didn't buy it. To big to haul in my wagon. Glad I was able to get the Sunn 2000s. Was able to pay it off with $100 down and 10 monthly payments totaling $1100. Good guys at the music store back then.

Mesa puts them on all their bigger cabs - I know they sell them separately, but IIRC they're a bit pricey... I seem to remember another forum member offering up a more cost effective source in the past - I'll see if I can dig it up...

For me, it depends on the gig: modern rock, hard rock or metal - I prefer the PH810... classic rock, blues, or country - I prefer the PH215... I can get any of those jobs done with either cab, but end up doing a whole lot less EQ'ing by matching up the cab to the job at hand - YMMV, though...
I do have one of the deep Peavey 215s that's loaded with Kappa LFAs that I leave at our rehearsal space - and it works well enough for any of those needs...
