I Miss The 2x15!

Went to the occasional old farts jam last night with my old fart original crew. I have my old fart original 106 Acoustic 2x15vintage 1975 that lives in my guitar player's basement.

Nowadays I have an Acoustic 320 Head on it with the EQ section though I still have the 140 head the rig came with. The cab is not any the worse for wear, it's built like the old Soviet T-34 Tank. Cab weight alone is 135 lbs. Doesn't even fit in any of my current vehicles.

I tell ya, the sound out of those 2 x 15's is phenomenal. I actually have my SWR 4x10 out on consignment, but the 15's really blew me way last night. You forget how round and full they are. I was smiling all night.

2x15s are better because a vertical arrangement of speakers is superior than a "square" of tens or twelves or whatever.

I resent the fact that I was born in the late 80s, as 410s and 810s are the standard marketing cab right now and pretty much all I have used.

I plan on making a 2x15 my next cab purchase because, after using one, I am completely sold.

This warms my little heart.

I played back to back shows this past weekend with my EV B215-M. First time I gigged it since I rehabbed it and refinished it with bed liner. I pushed it with my SVT-7 Pro and it sounded sublime. Hefty, yet balanced and lively. I did not like loading it in and out. However my band mates promised to help whenever I bring it instead of my Bergantino HT-310. And oh yes, it did have a certain aura about it sitting up there on stage that you just don't get with a 410 box. I do believe it's coming out again this weekend!

I'm another old fart -- that was my first rig!

My second rig was a Sunn Colosseum running into two Peavey 215s standing next to each other. Talk about a wall of sound! It could not only make your hair vibrate, it could knock the breath out out of your lungs and make your heart skip a beat. And no matter how loud it got, the sound was crystal clear (my 4001 Ricky loved it!) Man, I miss that sound.

My Trace rig - the 1528 holding down the lowest freqs, the 1048 4x10 getting the rest, and the AH500x pounding them both harder than a priest in a playground...

The 66 P-Bass I've had for 33 years and play daily just puts it over the top...

Ahhhhh... it's good to play the BASS!!!

I've played through an identical TE stack once, as a supplied backline at a multi-band thing. Sound was amazing...
