I Miss The 2x15!

I had to smile (actually chuckle) at the memory of those twin 15s ruffling my bell bottoms 40 years ago. A Dual Showman or a Sun Colosseum with twin cabinets was pretty much my standard in the pre-sound reinforcement days for concerts in big halls.

Today with the sound reinforcement systems used I prefer a much smaller rig and so does my back but those big old 15s could sure move a lot of air and they were the mainstays of that era. I gave up the last of my twin 15s in the mid 90's and moved on to 10s and 12's for a tighter sound but the classic bass sounds of my youth will always be those big old 15s.

Do you keep your house locked? Are you staying out for any long period of time? Is your house easily accessible? Do your neighbours watch your house at all? Do you live near me? What's your address? Will these fit in my car?

That 140 looks REAL familiar. Will have to take a pic when I am there next, am scheduled to jam the 11/16 so I'll remember the camera hopefully.

I need to get the grill baffle fixed on this one, it rattles like crazy and pops off frequently. But it IS a great sounding cab, the sound alone (not in band context) is so much warmer and nicer than my 8x10. The original speakers were pretty much dead when I picked up the cab years ago, so I put an EV and a Fane 15" in it to make sure they could take the heat from the SVT head.

Is that a TRAYNOR PA head peeking out behind that SVT?

Hey Thor,
I am interested in the "kazoo";)

Any chance when ya come to California that you could bring it?:D

I sold off the ACC 406N and 406W and that "140".
Still have the Acoustic 370, 2 of 'em and a 270.
into the "W" bins. Money used for a Pair of Fender Bassmans, a 135 and a 100, all tubes.:bassist:

electric Blue, no they won't fit in yer car, and i have 3 vicious attack cats!
and a water pistol!
As for the East Coast, I could meet ya in Old Greenwich Connecticut on the Post Road.;).
rock on BassBro's...
keep showing yer RIGs:cool:

So owing to one birthday about ten years ago I got one of those amp / cab / effects simulator pedals, and it didn't have a Dual Showman / D140Fs in it.

I gave the manufacturer a piece of my mind, I'll tell you...
What the hell were they thinking?

**********

Decades ago, I had a "200 watt" tube baseball park amp with a Showman preamp built into it, and two D140Fs and two EV SRO15s, which were loud but had no bottom. Which was pretty much the opposite of most of our audiences.

There is a 70s Kustom Tuck and Roll 2x15 cab at the local pawn shop for $200ish. I've been considering buying it and upgrading the drivers with something more modern. I was thinking about the fEarful design, and pondering putting some high excursion 15s in it.

I was considering the 3015 and 3015lf. Since the LF tops off at (correct me if I'm wrong) 1.5k HZish, I thought that one of each driver, with the 3015 on top, would be a decent setup.

Would this be a good idea? Should I use a crossover? Could I run each full range and still achieve a good tone? Have any of you tried this?

Check with JohnK_10

i'd bet a quarter the best results would be from just two of the full-range speakers (non-"LF"), with no energy-robbing crossover or any of that mess.
