tl;dr version: my husband fell in love with the squier classic vibe '70s jazz bass, so after some weirdness from samash, i ordered it and it's on its way for his birthday next month.

my husband is a guitar player, but he plays some bass, too. he used to have an affinity 5-string, but as he developed hand issues, he sold it.

i was showing him some kinga glyk videos, and he ended up tuning down my GSR100EX MO and was having a great time with it with no pain, and he asked me if there was an affinity jazz 4 string. i couldn't find a current one, but showed him a squier classic vibe '70s jazz bass in black. turns out he loves a maple fingerboard with block inlays, and he really liked it.

well, yesterday i went to order it. i ran into issues with our samash card (this happened before), and a rep had to manually place the order after lots of weirdness; he said the order went through, read me the financing legal stuff, and that - i thought - was that. i had to rush out the door afterward, and when i started this thread, i discovered that the bass had never been ordered. it was still in my cart and my cart was locked so i couldn't actually go to it or add anything to it.

just got off the phone with sam ash - yesterday's rep had forgotten to finalize the order. today's rep took care of it, and after 24 hours in limbo, my husband's birthday present is ordered :D

i don't think in 25 years i've ordered something from sam ash online or in any of our three local stores without weirdness or extreme slowness rearing it's ugly head. so i guess this was par for the course.

btw, it's one of these

What a treasure you are to him for ordering that bass for him and then dealing with the dog-and-pony show that can happen when ordering instruments online. I’ve been really lucky with Guitar Center, ordering 3 Music Man basses from them site unseen with never a problem and always a great experience.

My girlfriend of 20 years just says “I’ve no idea what instrument you like, play, or even want. But here’s my credit card, buy what you want “. Oh, yeah, poor me, right?? :D

I try to reciprocate with printers, computers, and things for her work-at-home office. But that stuff is easy to figure out. And my credit card limits are usually considerably lower than hers...:roflmao::roflmao:

i ordered my husband his most recent guitar, too. the company had stopped producing them, and he had been playing one every time we went to GC. so i kept an eye out, and oddly though they didn't sell well in store, used they sold fast. so when i found the right one, i didn't hesitate.

he doesn't have the same skill for finding me basses, but that's okay - he supports me in all my musical endeavors, and many of my basses have been modded or set up in his workshop.

it's not just online - sam ash stores in person can be a circus... well, if that circus was no fun.

yeah, poor you. at least she is willing to pay for another bass, a great trait in a significant other as opposed to the more common "why do you need another bass?" we hear about so often :D
