I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

I think, to an extent, it's because he posts here, and a lot of people have a very good relationship with him as a seller (he's a nice dude). Nobody would be talking about throwing ProCo under the bus, for example.
Exactly.
I had email contact with both and both were really nice( as were Proco)!
On hearing the clips however the Blower Box makes me smile more than Fuzzrocious pedals have done thus far.( have to investigate that man the ramparts pedal however, as I like simple looking pedals with few buttons and pots...)
I guess in terms of built quality there's nothing in it?
And... the jury is still out as to who sounds most "Rattish"?

I think most of the builders do separate themselves from the pedals themselves. People post all the time on the Darkglass page about how they weren't satisfied with what their experience based on the hype. I personally love their stuff. The point is that Doug, DG's owner, posts there too, and he never complains about it, just like Ryan doesn't, and as a matter of fact, he usually says that he hates it didn't work out for the buyer, but that they need to go with what sounds good to them.

The boutique builders, I think, are completely fine if you use another product to get your sound. Obviously, they'd prefer they earn your money, but they're players too and get that you need your sound, whatever that may be, and if you're not getting it from their product you'll get it somewhere else. Heck, often, they got started making pedals to chase their goals, and they seem understanding if your tone doesn't match with their pedals. They've been on the hunt, and then stopped hunting to create a new animal, as it were.

Oh, and after I spoke to a couple folks more about how I wanted to get my rig n board out to the FOH, I'm pretty sure I'm settling on a mic. I'd like to get a DI box too down the road, but I think mic'n my can will be the best way to go for me and my setup. I found a mic that I think I want but I can't remember exactly which one it was. It cost about $200 and is used as a kick mic but also as a bass cab mic. Gotta save save. Or sell sell! !

First I would make sure the sound guys at your regular gig spots are down with mic'ing a bass. It's a struggle even with the good ones. Personally I would invest in a good DI and/or cab sim first. Would hate to spend a bunch of money on a mic i wouldn't be able to use much.

I threw that out there to the guys I was talking to as well. Most shows we've played, the sound guy ALWAYS wants a DI off the bad rig. Always. I figured if I had my own mic they really can't say much about not using a mic to mic my cab. So I'm still struggling with embassy I want to do here. Especially when I hey some of your guys' input. Which weights a lot to me with alp of you being bassits yourselves and having played out there in the real world and some of you even being and having dealt with sound before. So I have a lot of thinking to do.

On the statement of me having a DI on my board, yeah I have one. But then that bypasses my whole amp n cab then. I want my whole rig to come through the house PA. So it's either gonna be the radial JDX or a good mic. Or maybe down the road when I can, both. But in the near future, I want something that will get my rig out to the audience. Not just my board and bass. Plus I do use a lot of dirt. So it would be nice, if not crucial depending on how good the house's setup is, to have a nice solid, accurate signal going to the FOH. DI's don't always send the best dirt to the PA ya know. For bass anyway.

Well I don't know if you use the 1001RB-II for gigging, but the DI out can be set to post EQ.

Of course the best way would be able to test each possibility live in a decent venue with a good PA and sound engineer...

Greg, I feel ya.
I will downright refuse DI from a sound guy, I don't really care what that makes him think of me.
I spent way too much time researching and building my rig just to have what I consider a "cold" signal go to the crowd.
My amp AND cabinet are a crucial part of my sound, bottom line.

I mean, I get that sentiment, my sealed cabs are the biggest part of my tone. But there are so many variables that will change that tone when you go through a FOH system, even if you have a good mic. You are going through their board and their speakers, bouncing around their room. I play small enough places that I know the crowd is getting a good bit of sound from my stage setup. The PA at my gigs tends to be more about delivering the boom in the room to keep up even with the other instruments.

Why are DI's not good for dirt? The only complaint I've heard is about passive DI's rolling off the highs a bit, which I guess could affect that. I like that for my sound, really. That JDX looks really interesting. I love the JDI I have, but that cab emulation looks like a cool concept for bass.

Exactly. I just spent $2500 on an amp and I'll probably spend another grand at least on another cab. I know, the audience won't be able to tell most the time. But I will. I want what I've built and spent all that money on to count for something.

And to lebowsky, I'm using an all tube head now that only has a slave out in the back. No DI out.

I'm back and forth on it now. But that JDX is probably the way I'll go when I can first thing. A good mic will come later. I believe that JDX will capture everything that my rig consists of pretty damn good. I know a couple shows I've played the dirt sounded pretty bad coming out of the stage monitors. But that could've been due to me and something I was/wasn't doing or missed or something like that.

Thanks for Ali the help guys. I really appreciate the input and shared experience.

Alrighty!! Soooooo I plugged in my Blower Box today. Ran it before my fuzz. My Grey Stache was sent back to Ryan so I stuck it in that spot for now. Oh my goodness! What an awesome pedal! With the mod this thing is just a beast! But guess what fellas...my Rat King isn't going anywhere! They sounded amazing together. Although the Blower Box can get pretty close to the Rat King tone there is something a little different. Most of you seemed to prefer that difference. Me on the other hand didn't think it was close enough to warrant taking my Rat off.

There is this kind of harshness the Rat King has that the Blower Box doesn't. Then the blower Box has this thick ballsy low end that enhances the distortion so nicely. Ran together OH MY! Too good! That's my opinion of it. Maybe I am a rat distortion guy after all. I guess I am not getting another fuzz anymore and I am ok with that! I will see if my impressions change on Tuesday after practice. I will report back then. So far to me it seems these pedals were made for each other. As much as I would like another woolly muff fuzz I can't warrant it. Hopefully Ryan will be able to do the tone bypass mod on my Grey Stache while he has it and It will hold my fuzz needs off for a while.
