You know, that 15 string grows on you more and more as you dont expect it to sound like a traditional bass.

Jauqo, aw com'on on , you need a 2nd bass in that band. Com'on man, I'll stay way low, single notes at times and add a nice basso continuo groove to the drums... the drummer is HOT. Com'on man, I'll stay on the B string, right on the kick, so I;m not in the way .

BTW, J, do you own a Chapman stick? I've always wanted to strap one on. The 15 string is reminiscent.

What threw it off at the beginning was the guitarists. ACK. Sounds like the Floyd Rose broke a spring but it came back very nice like. There are SO MANY polyrhythms going on you have to really sit back and NOT listen to it to enjoy it.

I rate Jauqo very highly, as a bassist and as a real nice guy (based on my TB experiences). I've enjoyed listening to a lot of his stuff on here. The only thing that I don't dig about the clip posted is just the sound quality (come on, what do you expect?). The musicianship is great and it's good to hear people who still want to express themselves instead of fitting in with some formula.

The quality of the recording on The Power of is not the best and it was done on a video recorder with a very tiny mic.

The drummer is out touring with Lenny Kravitz . He's also toured with Stanley Clark, Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder just to name a few.

I owned and played a Chapman Stick for a while in the early 80's.

Jauqo can groove. I've witnessed it. This is just him having fun making noise. I'm sure there's some fancy music theory physics working behind all the cacophony, but I'm too dumb to hear it. I determine all music by one simple litmus test. Are the chicks shaking their tatas? If they're not shaking their tatas, then something's wrong. Of course this is just my opinion and as you all know, I have a lot of those.

I concur. Completely and Totally. If the ladies aren't groovin', then I'm not doing the job.

Note: I play mostly blues, fusion, and a bit of old school rock and roll. I do take the time to scout out the appropriate venues so that I know that what I do will go over there - nothing worse than going in and playing Johnny Winters to a hip-hop crowd.

I can see how this particular clip might not be everyone's cup of tea, but what must be said about Jauqo that doesn't fully come across in the posted clip is that he is a true innovator and technique pioneer. When someone plays your own bass in a way you've never heard it played before, you know that guy is doing something special!
