I've looked at the smaller Mr Coffee Makers. They get good reviews for the coffee they make. One issue that was repeated by many people was they were lucky if it worked 2 years. It's like they have some kinda of built-in self destruct. I guess they sell more products that way. Can't make em to good, or no one will need another one. Unless they threw out their perfectly good one.

Pretty sure that's today's standard model with planned obsolescence. Products in our disposable society are intended to last until just after the warranty expires.

'They don't make em like they used to' is a real phenomenon.

I've never thought much of Keurig "coffee", nor wanted to have one. The office downstairs got sucked into thinking they were cool, and apparently does not care that they are now paying $60/lb (or some such outrageous price) for mediocre coffee, while generating vast amounts of waste packaging. I don't recall if you'll still need to cut a wire to use your re-usable pod in there, or not - I recall that was a "thing" for a while when they made them even more obnoxious with some sort of verification sensor on each pod.

Longevity-wise, I have two broken units from the office downstairs undergoing "are there useful parts in here?" casual disassembly in my basement. I don't recall their birth year, but they are not all that old. I have no interest in bringing them back to life (if that's even possible) just the quest for potentially useful parts.

My phone is my alarm clock. It is set for my weekly routine. I cannot possibly sleep though it, yet once in awhile lately I sleep in. I think this is designed to make me upgrade to a new phone.

Create that little bit of doubt regarding the reliability of your device, coupled with some new models coming out that are reportedly way better than what you have now.
I'm kinda sorta dealing with that now with my Turbo 2.

I too have been using a Keurig for years no issues since day one. Fast and simple to use k-cups can be pricey, but you can buy at 100 ct in the big box places for 30-40 dollars. If mine died today I would purchase another one.
