I think I stop believing in expensive basses!

Either way this is pointless, let me clear up my opinion of Fodera and speak for myself.

I have NO opinion of them or their product, and could care less. Okay yes I don't like the top horn area of the body on some models it looks to long and seems strange looking, if it didn't extend so far down the top of the neck I'd think they were absolutely stunning instruments. Aside from that small detail they're gorgeous.
And to Roy Vogt, my apologies for including your name, the way that comment was written was a bit confusing for someone like myself that doesn't follow Fodera at all.

I've been told by a local (hipster) that this bass looks like a shop project gone horribly wrong. I'll be damned if this isn't one of the most comfortable basses to play and my 2nd lightest bass next to a chambered Rob Allen Mouse 30. Cliff Bordwell's "Ball" shape fits me like a glove, sitting or standing for hours on end.
The longer top horn shortens first position reach, which becomes essential when you're dealing with lots of strings and/or longer scale lengths. It also helps with balance.
When you also move the bridge, you can dramatically shorten reach and have amazing balance as well as lighten the body as desired. The reach on this bass is amazing. When I got my first Rob Allen 35" scale, I was confused on how/why a 35" scale bass had the same first position reach as my 32" scale Fender Urge.

I like my Fodera a lot better than my MIM jazz. Feels better to me, the tone is exactly what I want and is more versatile than any bass I have ever owned. I can definitely tell a difference in the construction as well. I really don't care at all about what other people think, I didn't get it to impress anyone but myself. I saved and saved and saved my deployment money from 4 tours and decided to get MY dream bass, as a little present to myself for staying alive.
Like what you want, buy what you want but don't bash anyone for doing the same. This thread turned into a bunch of bickering fueled by arrogance, pride, and envy, in a good way and in the worst way.
That said, anybody want to buy a MIM jazz modified?

Like with anything you get "bad apples," but you also get really great or "better apples." I have never had the desire to spend thousands on one single bass. I guess you can call it luck in that all the Squier's and MIM and MIJ Fender's I have owned over the years have all been great basses in their own respect. I remember a MIM P I owned I played and was complimented by a lot of people and even by the bassist of the headlining tour band who was playing the show with us who was using a newer MIA P bass.
Not comparing Gold to Copper here or anything but sometimes the more expensive is not always the best.

I'm happy in the mid-range, I guess. I don't need a cheap bass at this point. My first bass ever was a beginner's bass combo package Epiphone p-bass knockoff that I bought for around $300. It was fine for a couple years, and then I bought a very nicer Fender P for around $900. My other two basses have been in the same price range. I'm very happy where I'm at.
I could see someday spending $2-3,000 for a custom bass of some sort. I think spending more than about $4K on a bass is rather spendy unless you're a touring musician who is constantly gigging making good money. I wouldn't be able to justify such an expense myself.
To each their own, though. The guitarist in our band buys lots of cheap guitars. He just bought two Deans on closeout and a used MIM Fender. I just sort of shook my head...if it had been me, I would have combined that cash and bought a nice MIA Fender or something. I find that the cheaper instruments tend to have more things go wrong.

On the bottom there's this tiny little horn usually but up top it like the body was extended way down the neck and looks overly stretched out.

The ones you posted all look fine to me, I guess think Les Paul where the cut away Is at the bottom but not at the top. Now stretch the top area about 4-6 inches further on the Les Paul.
It would look painfully strange.
And that is about how it registers with me when I see that style of Fodera.
Again, I'm no authority in proper bass ergonomics im simply a Fender Jazz bass loving guy with little to no desire to broaden my horizons on design changes.
If I had the cash I'd beg Fodera to build me a J Bass copy of my 62 J Bass. Or at least a close one basses off of it of coarse including their touch too.
Similar story for me, except it was 2 divorces rather than 4 tours - still glad to get out alive

If it was me, I'd combine all that money and buy a more expensive one because the cheaper ones have more problems.
Now apply that way of thinking to a guy with more cash flow and now you totally get it.

Singlecuts. I've played a few. It's mostly aesthetic. I've played a few and felt that the design didn't help or hurt the bass. They appeal to a certain demographic and not to others.

Now I will admit I'd never even looked at Fodera's before maybe a week ago but after looking I've realized they don't all look like that one style and I honestly thought they did.
Keep in mind I'm new to the bass thing, if your not familiar with my wonderful TB introduction I'm the guy with the shell pink 62 J Bass i bought for $100 bucks and incited a very dramatic entrance to the community here. that was my first bass and it's now been all of maybe 2 months or so.
Everything is still new to me.

A bit off topic maybe:
I`m not going to say: butique basses are great, and I`m not going to say squire for 100$ is great.
What I`m going to say is:
1. We have this saying in my country that for a bad ballet dancer even piece of her dress makes an obstacle. Meaning.... if you are crap at something you will complaint about everything.
2. I know a guy who used to work with me (I was giving him a spin from work as he does not own a car). It`s his choice, guy prefers to save money, whatever...I do not care.
Problem with him is: he will criticize every smallest flaw in other people cars. It got to the point when I told him to fck off..
My point is: both Toyota Prius and Mercedes S class will take you from point A to point B. Some people tried them both. In my opinion people who will keep saying (after trying them both) that Prius is, more economic, cheaper in maintenance, environment friendly car are right... BUT WHO GIVES A DAMN THING ABOUT THEM?
Drive your Prius guys who like it, drive your Mercedes S class guys who can afford it!
DRIVE AND SHUT UP.
I own squire at the moment, I dream about MM sterling (I know it isn`t butique one).
I`m not whining about Wal bass sounding similar to squire and vice versa.
I don`t see a point, and I don`t see a point in people making threads like this.
It`s like discussing what`s more important X-mas or Easter...
And at the end: all you people who are whining: if you would have enough money you would be all playing boutique basses anyway
