I want your string business!!

From DR strings:

"Thanks for your inquiry but we do not offer specific tension charts for any of our models. Here in sales, all we are told is that every set we make is set on the lathe to a medium tension. Production does not issue the exact numbers.

Our apologies,

The DR staff"

So much for kicking the tires. At least they got back to me.

Bummer. I'll still try to get some here in case you want to give them a shot.

My experience with DR's hex core strings is that they feel stiffer than their roundcore strings. So Nickel Lo Riders (nickel on hex core) should feel more stiff than Pure Blues and Sunbeams (both are nickel on round core). Of the Pure Blues and Sunbeams, I'm not sure which is more stiff. Before becoming a flatwound guy, I played the Sunbeams and loved them.

Yeah, don't worry about the Lo-Rider's, then. I have a few days before the 'out-of-stock' label comes off the others, so that'll give me some time to decide.

Thanks for the discount codes, as well!

BTW - for any of you guys that buy multiple sets at a time, I've setup some discount codes that give you a certain percentage off X numbers of sets. The deals are 3% off 2 sets or 5% off 3 or more sets. Use these discount codes at checkout:

3OFF_2SETS
5OFF_3SETS

I also should have mentioned that they don't have to be the same set or even the same brand. Just buy any 2 sets of bass strings, or any 3 sets of bass strings, etc. Easy peasy.

Also - if you get hooked up with our rewards program, you'll get a 5% store credit to put towards a future purchase every time you buy anything through our website.

My aim is to meet other seller's lowest prices without doing the discount code and rewards things. So when you do factor in those things, my pricing should be really, really good. That's my intent, anyway.

OK, you want my business, here's my challenge. I like light gauge strings, but I also like my B string (I play 5's almost exclusively at this point) to have a matching tension, which....there are literally no 5 string sets that fit that description, so......

I either buy all singles so I can get a decent set, or I buy a light gauge set and a single B to match in tension. My most recent order(s) were for GHS Boomers and GHS Boomers - I had to buy light gauge 4 string sets from one place (got a decent price), and the B strings (130's) direct from GHS (the 4 string sets cost a bunch more if bought direct). I paid 2 shipping charges and had to order from two places to get decent sets of balanced tension strings. So, if you want to earn my business, you get to figure out how to get me what I need from one place, at a price competitive with other online string places.

In addition to GHS Boomers, I use GHS round core boomers, I use SIT Nickel power wounds (bought as singles, their sets don't make sense) and I use Kaliums for one bass (OK, that one isn't gonna go your way).

I just received a shipment from GHS, and I was able to sneak in some of the .130 single Bass Boomer strings (DYB130 in GHS-speak). I setup an item on my website that includes ALL of the single Bass Boomers gauges in one website item. The DYB130 is the only gauge I have in stock right now, but I'll fix that next week with another order for GHS. I'll also include the Roundcore Bass Boomer singles in that order.

The single item might seem mildly confusing to use at first, but it's actually pretty simple. Just click the bubble for the guage you want, and the image and price will change to reflect your selection. Like the .030 single costs less than the .130 single. Once you've selected the right guage, then add it to the cart and either continue shopping or checkout.

For the Lo-Riders... 4 string, .45-.105, Medium/Medium-Light

GHS M7200 Pressurewounds, for sure. I don't think I realized the total tension is a little over 187*... less than that would be okay as well... maybe, GHS ML7200, and whatever is similarly offered in the Lo-Rider's.

Thanks, Greg! I have the site bookmarked, too!

* I do enjoy the playability of these, even when tuned down a half step for my current band.

Speaking of the GHS order I received today, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] are in stock now, too.

Bookmarked for when I need strings again.
Dunlop’s would be a nice addition if you can get them.

+1 for Dunlop. Super Brights.

Very popular among the TB crowd, and for good reason.

Sounds like a hot tip! I'll get on that soon, I just need to recharge my checking account a little bit.

Hey Greg,
Do you know when you will be getting some more GHS or LaBella flats in?

I wish I did, but I don't.

I placed a couple big orders with La Bella at the beginning of November, and I placed an order with GHS for Precision Flats at the beginning of December. And something similar for DR Legend flats. All three brands are singing the same song: expect a long wait due to a shortage of the flat outer wrap wire. I want to say La Bella said something like 6 months for delivery, but I might be making that up. So many brands are quoting crazy long delivery times for certain things...

Sorry, I wish I had better news!

oh man!
Sorry to hear that… freaking supply chain issues are just doing a number on us all aren’t they?

Yup, it's pretty nuts. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some sign that things are turning around for the better, but I haven't seen it yet.

On the plus side, I'm having to scramble to add all sort of things to my website that I might never have added otherwise. Strings, straps, pickups, microphones, etc. Whenever things do get back to normal, I should be in that much better a position than I was before. At least, that's the hope!
