I think some people like to haggle or hassle. They will get me to lower the price then change their mind or I will never hear from them again.

Ha, I saw that ad. It's crazy how legit it looked if it is a scam, multiple pictures and a decent description.
+1 I always expect that people will offer a lower amount than I'm asking. That is why I usually set my starting asking price a bit higher than I really want to get out an item. Same goes for when I'm buying something used. I never give the person what they are offering without haggling a bit.
one time i was selling some oakleys on CL for 150, i was totally happy with 100 and some guy offered 100, i asked if we could meet about half way at 120 and he jumped on it.

Some of you have terrible attitudes about buying and selling stuff.
Buyers should always try to work the price down, and conversely sellers should always try to pocket as much as they can.

I once tried to sell a Mesa cabinet on CL. I had it listed for $600. Someone emailed back and said "I'll give you $300 right now!" I emailed this reply: "OK, $300 now, and another $300 when you come pick it up."

I don't have a problem with someone haggling for my gear especially if the person seems decent and treats me with respect. I have even been know to reduce the price on the spot without them asking. Also I sometimes throw accessories (picks, straps, cords, etc.) or what not for free. One guy and his son came over to buy a rack case. I gave the son a book on vintage synthesizers because that is what he was into. The kid was happily surprised. I do that type of thing on occasion.

I had a guy spend an hour looking over a guitar/amp I was selling, and finally he agreed on a lower price (I needed the money, badly, so I went for it). Got home and he already have the stuff posted at twice the price I got for it. Funny thing is, I had been posting the stuff for a long time, and I'd be amazed if he sold it at those prices (or anything close). Oh well, I got rent money I needed, and I bet he felt like a wheelin' dealin' stud : D
It goes like this:
The scammer overnights you a check for the $5000 plus the 3k for shipping, for a total of $8000. They tell you they need the item quick so you need to go cash the check and wire the shipper the money TODAY. You take the check to the bank teller, who looks over the check. it has a watermark. it looks legit. most banks will give you 1/2 of the amount of the check back as cash if you are depositing the other 1/2 even if you dont have that much in your account. SO, you tell the bank you need $3000 back in cash and deposit the other $5000. They give you the $3000. You drive down the street to western union and wire the $3000 out of the country. You cannot get this money back and you will never see it again. The next day the check you deposited comes back bad and you owe your bank $3000.
It's simple, and apparently quite effective. I was scammed by this once, but was smart enough to have the bank manager look over the check before i did anything. She examined it for a good 5 minutes using a magnifying glass, and determined it was fake. Later that day when the scammer called me to ask why i hadn't wired the shipping money, when i told him his check was a fake, suddenly he couldn't speak english anymore and could not understand anything I was saying. I still have the check. Good times.
There's a difference between "haggling" and being a greedy a**hole.
They're easy to spot. There's a guy in my area who responds to EVERY item I've ever listed and offers less than 50% of my asking price. But he'll "pay cash tonight". I actually agreed to sell him something once, but he couldn't make it for another 3 days after all.

Same here. We've done the email thing and the phone number thing. Deals always seem to go faster and smoother with the phone method. The only part about CL that we don't like is having people come to the house to pick stuff up; my wife hates that. Have to do it sometimes. We sold a couple of rather large fish tanks that way--they're just too large, heavy, and fragile to deliver.
Of course, I contradicted myself in another thread about this because I said that I don't prefer to put my phone number onine. That's true...but with CL, it's just easier to get a deal over with when you provide a number.

I am restricted to moving around due to the operation I just went through, so the computer is the only way to buy, shop and place order on whatever is needed by me daily. I am buying this for a friend as compensation when he comes back from his tour, he is the one who takes me around on wheel chair before the operation whenever I need to go out and help me with more other things that might prove difficult for me to do, I hope you have imagined and understood the kind of situation I am in. That doesn't sound fishy at all.
It's typical craigslist stuff...haggling and dealing with BS'ers. I've posted ads for stuff and get offers for 1/3 of the asking price...CASH! (I got news for you...EVERYBODY is going to pay cash, as checks, etc, are not going to be accepted, period!)
On the other hand, I've also sold a bass and an amp for the asking price...no haggling involved. And that was nice!
