I have been advertising a few items on Craigslist and I find it amusing when some idiot who has never seen the item e-mails me and says "I will give you $300 CASH right now!"

BTW I don't take personal checks, cashier's checks, money orders, credit cards, debit cards, gift certificates, stock, bonds, gold, silver, diamonds, food stamps, starbucks coupons, etc.

I only take cash US. No Canadian money please.

Sometimes they guy will make an offer so vague that I have to e-mail him what item he was talking about.

Craigslist.....never a dull moment. :D

Some guy is scamming me right now saying that he wants to pay me in a cashier's check and pay me $50 extra to hold it. He is out of the country right now. So I accepted. What the heck. He can send me all the cashier's checks he wants. I have a room that needs wallpaper.

that one is a scam for sure, will make good wall paper, maybe if we let enough of these clowns mail us stuff and then stop responding to them they will go away?

My favorite is the guy who asks "what's the lowest price you'll take?"

Let's think about this for a second. I listed the TV for $250. If I was willing to sell it for a lower amount, say $200, in order to get it sold more quickly, why wouldn't I just list it for $200?

The lowest pirice I'll accept? I don't know, what's the highest you'll pay?

I have a cab for sale now on CL for a real good price. This guy keeps writing me trying to get me to go lower. I sent him a link to a Craiglook page with about ten cabs like mine for sale around the country and mine was the lowest one listed. He still tried to beat me down $50. I am so temped to tell him to come and get it and then punch him when he shows up.

maybe that's a plan. Write back with the counter offer "sure I'll take $50 less if you also let me punch you in the face when you come to pick it up."

I have actually gone the distance of taking the money order's to see how good they were and they are very legit looking. My bank actually ok'd the money order after I told them the story. If I actually went through with depositing it, I would have been out $7000 for a motorcycle. Im sure there are TONS of people that get shafted by these scams.

Still, if you have the cab three weeks from now and nobody is offering to buy at your full price, that $50 off might look good to you. In my experience buying and selling anything on the used market, the first price listed is never the final price. It's a negotiation.

Why not offer to split the difference with the guy, and offer to sell it for $25 less than you're asking? IMO, better to sell it right away locally for a little less than asking than to wait for weeks or months, OR have to sell it online and put up with shipping, PayPal and/or eBay fees. Of course, best of all is to buy/sell it here on TB, despite the PayPal fees and shipping costs/hassle.
