This was introduced at NAMM - seems to be trickling into the US market now. Anyone had the chance to try one?

Kinda interesting that they didn’t release a version of this in the painted finish 1005 series.

I’ve seen these on eBay but not anywhere else yet. One is even marked “used.”

But I’m too nervous about buying something that expensive on eBay, and I’ve got no experience with eBay.

I really want to try it and it’s multi-scale brother (the short ones).

@Winton how does your SMS compare to the 1005ms (full scale)?? I’ve had a chance years ago to try full scale 1005.

Following the thread. Was interested in one of these recently but could not find one to try or good reviews. Kind of wish they made a version closer to the $1000 price point like they do for the 4 string (would have taken a chance on that).

Nothing to be nervous about as a buyer. My experience is that eBay tends to side with the buyer in disputes.

I’m curious to hear how the low B is. My EHB1005SMS is multi scale but it has 32” on the B and it sounds FAT!
Yeah! I’ve been pondering getting a 1005SMS used (in emerald) but this could be a cool alternative, esp with the Big Splits. There’s not many demo videos yet, but here’s one: (EDITED: this one actually demos the low B)

And here’s the intro video from NAMM about 10 months ago:

I briefly tried the multi scale and did not enjoy it. My left hand was fine with fanned frets. I usually move my right hand to control my tone and found the fan setup did not work for how I play.

I think I would also not like it. It would seem weird to have my thumb on an angle pickup. They should probably develop pickup housing specially for multi-scales.

I tried a 1005ms (34”) a while back and that’s not an issue after a minute or two. What would take retraining for me is moving my right hand diagonally downward to stay in the same place relatively (like above the pickup).

The EHB club did mention this, and most said they got used to it

I wouldn’t be. If buying something marked new, you have the option to return items, and you can usually negotiate a return on used items with sellers unless the item is marked “as described.”

Sellers are mandated to have a return policy (allowed within x days, in reasonable condition) and must take it back if it’s defective. They usually include insurance on shipping damage.

eBay also usually offers an optional SquareTrade Allstate warranty at time of purchase if you want additional coverage.

I would just make sure you’re buying from a reputable seller (decent positive ranking, and/or from a brick and mortar store if possible)

Yeah, dunno why they didn’t include one in the painted series. Maybe there was more demand on the “coffee table” side of the market.

I haven’t tried the full scale version even though I could’ve at stores :P

I will say that going from a regular 34” bass, it’s pretty darn comfortable. I generally don’t feel comfortable with 32” or 30” basses, but for some reason, the 1005sms is so easy to transition from my Pbass.
