Ibanez Tonelok pedal appreciation thread.

I got them all including WD-7 :hyper: I love the design, but there are better effects out there, given you are willing to pay double or triple :)

They have some kind of generic boards, possible shared with a couple of others. For example, all the distortions may use the same board with different components, so it somewhat makes them moded versions of one another.

Those said, they have "the best" value in their price range, except the 7th Heaven, which is advertised as 7 string guitar distortion with improved low frequency range (I got high hopes that it should work with bass and would sound avesome). But I only find out it is more of a fuzz then it is a distortion, and one of the worst fuzz sound I yet to heard :)

hey MusicElectroniX, i didnt know you were here too, i just saw your stuff the other day on ebay, and if it wasnt for customs duty that we get raped for in britain, i reckon i would have got ur MessDrive Hybrid, ur website had some great clips.

sorry, back to the thread!
i had the Phat Hed Bass Distortion and didnt really rate it, it was my first distortion and i thought it had some great features, but i probably didnt even know how to use it properly (i sold it to my mate, who still has it) i've currently got the Synthesizer Bass pedal and its pretty awsome, altho i got charged the same amount as a Qtron (bastids) even tho i got ripped off, its a very good envelope filter, and yes i have the stomp problems that alot of people seem to have, ie: it may not turn on when its meant to. but the 'synth settings' (read:distortion) are great and IMO better than the clean setting, usually coz with my old env filters i wanted to run distortion into them, but now its all in one pedal.

can anyone actually tell me what the difference between the synthbass and the autowah are? i mean they're both envelope filters with optional distortion, and the SB has lo pass and band bass filters.

I have the PH-7, but I don't use it much.
I might be just picky: but I don't like the the distortion setting.
I wanted a distortion pedal, but on the PH-7 I only use the overdrive setting. The best overdrive for my taste.

I tested it on a MIA Jazz Bass through a Marshall rig (don't know what head anymore but it was a 4x12" cab, the bass and rig belonge to a bassist who thaught me a lot, and I later on replaced in a band), anyway:
It sounded so nice. I would describe it as warm and sharp at the same time. Perfect for soloing or doing melodic back-up in a sort of jazz / fusion / rock band.

For myself I use it now in overdrive setting (drive to the max), en EQ in front of it with sharp metal setting (many low, no mid, and lots of treble. Gain fully open on the amp, and that does it for me. It makes for a cool distortion overall, but not insane.

I tried the Sevent Heaven on a bass once. That distortion sounded so cool. I didn't noticed that much fuzz at all. Only problem was when I hitted two strings at the same time it all went to muddy. Pitty, I would have bought one otherwise.

But overall: yeah, the Tone Lok pedals are cool.

Anyone tried the FZ-7 Fuzz on a bass? Does it work well? Does it sound great?

The PH-7 is a Phaser, isn't it? Anyway, it sounds like you have a Phat-Hed, which is the PD-7. I have one, and I agree that it has a great overdrive tone. I had the FZ-7 and the TS-7, but I must not have liked them too much when I tried them with my bass as I only used them for guitar. I also has the Bass Synth and the Delay; I liked the delay, but gave it, the FZ-7 and the TS-7 to a friend as a wedding gift. The Synth was better than the Boss one for me, but in the end I didn't use it much and got rid of it.

Thanks for picking up the error in my post. My mistake, I meant the PD-7. That pedal is stored away now.

So, the FZ-7 Fuzz doesn't work that well on bass??

I've got a PD-7 and SB-7 and I like them both. The SB-7 may be a little bit limited compared to something like the BMS, but that is also its saving grace, as it is easy to find a good sound and doesn't require (or allow) endless tweaking.

The PD-7 is great too, good ovedrive and distortion settings, and the clean setting adds a lot of edge to your sound as well. All in all - good pedals, great value (each was under $60, compared to my Blowtorch which was $140).

gassing for CF7 over here

heard and love DE7, it's just so great a delay...

TS7 on guitar, sounds nice. Both guitar players in my band have one and we don't play anything with "modern" sounds... They sound great with humbuckers.

I, for one, stick almost like a religion to my TS9.

Ibanez never made a bass that I like (my humble opinion), but the effects are marvelous
