I wonder how the results would differ if the stipulation was that the only people who could vote are those who have owned both a Fender AND a Sadowsky?

In any event, the last thread was comparing the most common and well known brand (Fender) with the most boutique (Fodera). That's a much different conversation and those two basses generate VERY different opinions from players, fellow musicians, producers etc. The entire point of Sadowsky was to create something with a very Fender-like look and a somewhat Fender-like sound with improved construction and playability.

It's a different discussion altogether.

Agree. I own both (Fenders - '64 Jazz, '75 P Fretless, Am. Std. P, Am Deluxe P, and Geddy Jazz; Sadowsky's - NYC Standard 4 with soaps, NYC Standard 4 with J pups, and a UV70.

I love 'em all, but the Sadowsky's are better built, more versatile instruments. The array of sounds Sadowsky's produce through pickup blends, VTC, and bass/treble control is nothing short of amazing. Intonation is perfect and stays perfect.

I could go either way on this one depending on specifics.

Roger is definitely the builder that I would choose for a new single bass. I know exactly what I would ask him to make. I know exactly what I would get from him. He is right at the top, both as a class act and knowing what he is doing.

That said, there are specific Fenders that could also rule the roost. Not just any one, though; you have to play a whole bunch of them to find the really good ones. Even so, I would still use one of Roger's outboard preamps.

I don't think either Fender or Sadowsky currently makes the bass I want so I guess I'd have to go the custom shop route and order a....

Sadowsky Ultra Vintage 5 string 3tsb alder P/J maple board
...unless I can have an...
Alleva Coppolo 5 string surf green P/J with rosewood board (darn not an option)

ok, I'll take the Sadowsky ultra vintage 5 string with a reverse P pickup and an added Jazz pickup at the bridge painted in surf green with rosewood board, parchment pickguard and lollypop tuners, all chrome hardware please.

Any Fender : I'll take John Wetton's P-Bass that he played while in King Crimson.

Model, year, woods, finish, etc. : IIRC it was an early 60's model, alder body stripped to a natural finish, maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. I think he may have played the same P-Bass while in the band UK as well.

Why? Because he's one of my biggest bass heroes.

I'd settle for my Modern 5-24 25th Anniversary. Mahogany body, flamed koa top, ebony 'board, and corrected blend pot. It has the bark I require, while maintaining the capacity for a full bottom end. If you're not familiar with it, see below.

I am a huge fender fan, but I would take the Sadowsky. I love the tone Newsted gets out of them. My American Deluxe Jazz fiver is one hell of a tone machine though. I use La Bella HRS'S with the tapered B, and recently replaced the SCN pickups with Duncan quarter pounders. She is really hot now. Great B string also

could you explain to me why? Not trolling just wondering what this means - like compare them as a group? Are some of these builders more relevant as a comparison? :confused:



I would either say the best straight passive P I could find....or one of the basses they actually send Roscoe Beck....:cool:

i love the Fender vibe, but last year i was hot for the Sadowsky Tone. i just haven't found the right Sad yet. i guess you have to play a bunch until the right one comes along. :confused:

WAIT A MINUTE?!?!

isn't that what people keep saying about Fender?!?! :confused:
