Id go buy a mesa powerhouse 212 and 215.

Then an old svt or 400+

then rest towards a custom bass

I would probably get my SVT-VR fixed and re-housed by Emperor Cabinets. Perhaps ebony or a dark walnut. Then, I'd buy an old SVT-810 and have Emperor do the same to that. If I had money left over, I'll get them to make me a case for my P-bass that matches the whole rig.

Man that sounds sweet... gonna need some road cases!!

Get a squire, mod it, get an SVT, buy some picks, and pocket almost half that.

You will prob get the same result than if you spent the whole 4k

A Ric, a Musicman 5, and what ever is left on an Ampeg SVT... Have enough other stuff already. If only one bass than the Ric and the SVT. With the SVT I could put my SoundCity head in the museum (LOL).

I recently had some cash and purchased an Ampeg SVT Classic and SVT 410. I opted not to get the 1x15 to complete the stack but it sounds great.

I then purchased a cheap P-bass, a fretless neck from Warmoth and pickups to upgrade it with. I almost bought a Invalid Link Removedbass(about a grand) which is a 5 string fretless acoustic electric bass. I have heard a guy at the local blues jam play a similar 4 string Carvin and they sound great.

If I had a full $4000 to spend on stuff I'd have got the Carvin too. It will be my next bass purchase.

Hard to go wrong with an American made Fender or a Music Man or both and an SVT stack.

$4000 sounds like a lot of dough but like a game show where you fill the shopping cart up you can get only so much before you go over. How about a Fender P Bass Deluxe($1500) , Ampeg 810(reg. ) $1000 and an SVT CL ($1600) .... you went over....see what I mean? Make sure you buy what you really need and want because when you go to re-sell any of it you will be lucky to get 50% of your money back , believe me I am going through this right now. Have fun shopping.....................
