Hey guys, does anyone have in-hand experience with these basses?

I get that they are meant to be faithful repros of the original bass with some masterfully artful relicing…how’s the actual craftsmanship though? It looks to be stellar, but I have no way of trying one out…at $6500 apiece and a year long wait list, I’m intrigued but timid.

On a separate note, do you think they’ll gain value over time? Not that that’s a motivator, more of a mental mastur-youknowwhat exercise.

They're actually putting Tadeo Gomez & Gloria's names on these?? Making a recreation is one thing but copping those names is a bit too much for me. If you are going that far why not add the headstock logo or shape it correctly, or add the proper serial # to the bridge [rhetorical question because it would instantly be considered a counterfeit, whereas the other names are hidden from view once assembled]?

A very nice example of an aftermarket '52 slab but a little too cute by 1/2, especially at that price.

See, I kinda like that. I get entirely what you are saying! I take it as a sign of respect not only for Leo but for Tad and Gloria, recognizing their work and efforts in creating iconic instruments.

I'm of two minds on this...on the one hand, Fenders were supposed to be serviceable, assembly line instruments...tools for a purpose built well enough to handle some beating. To that end, it's almost comical that a boutique replica would go for so much as it's striving to simply be what the instruments once were. On the other hand, there is a crazy amount of work and detail that have gone into these and the cost is certainly justified in paying for a lifetime of skill to get to the point of being able to build them this way.

If it plays & sounds how you want, it's a bass. If it only hangs on the wall or on the stand, it's art.

I get it to a certain extent, especially having owned a '52 made by Tadeo Gomez. But that's also why I have an issue with it. To each, their own.

It was a great bass, but this was back in 89-90. So the price wasn't as stratospheric as they are today.

Mine was a bit of a puzzle since it had an aluminum pg [years before the gold anodized pg Fender would reproduce by 1957] and a 2 color sunburst [a couple years before Fender used it on the mid 50's P bass]. Neither George Fullerton or George Gruhn could determine if it was an employee one off [which was somewhat common in the early days] or why it was configured that way. It had the TG & date on the neck & Tadeo & date on the body.

He makes Teles for Julian Lage, they have to be amazing. Can't say I've ever seen one on the used market, another possible indicator of some measure of their value or rarity.
