Like I said (or added after you quoted me), I was agreeing with you. I've had guys tell me that they weren't interested in learning any theory because they thought it would break their groove or somehow contaminate them with conventional ideas, and they'd have to read charts to be able to play at all. I think I know where they got that idea; I've known schooled musicians who were technically good but couldn't jam their way out of a paper bag, but those guys never had any jam in their blood to begin with.
Ah, now I see what you are saying. Thanks for clearing that up. I am definitely in the school of thought that the more you learn the better off you are overall.
Heh, it's all good. Doesn't matter because understanding theory gives you a sterile feel, which is complimented by the "streile" tone of active electronics, eh?

Haha yeah. It's not a very good story though. I had brought my Ibby GSR200 to school to play with a guitarist at an after-school party. At lunch I pulled it out and was showing it off to all the chicas.
Suddenly this guy comes up out of nowhere and asks me if that's my electric banjo. I smile a little bit and say "No, it's a bass." He says "Oh." Then he leaves. :scowl:Last week at practice the new drummer in the praise and worship band at my church told me bass lines we supposed to be simple.

+1 on that, dude. I'd like to hear someone say that to Rhonda Smith, Me'Shell, MC Divinity, Carol Kaye, etc. or this girl Kat who I saw play bass with a local punk/rap band I saw last week. She was slammin.'
Hey-I remember something I heard a couple guitar players say before that pissed me off: "I can play anything a bass player can play...better"
The next time I hear anyone say "I play (insert), so I can play bass.", I will hand them my bass. When they start asking why the frets buzz so much, I'll just smile.
