Ha! I left one of my basses at a guitar player freinds' for a month and he tried to do some stuff that I do off of some recordings we had. I got the same response. He understood that playing bass was far more physically demanding than playing the same style on a guitar. I am now god! :)

How about the one about basses made in China and Korea are automatically junk? That's obviously false. Sure the first Korean made instruments weren't that great, but nowadays Korean made basses are quite good. Skyline anyone? I know the first generation of Chinese-made RockBasses had issues, but they're upping their game.

Speaking of Warwick, I love the generalization that only people in "crummy nu-metal bands" play Warwick. Or that Warwicks are junk. So far, every person I've allowed to try my Warwick couldn't put it down.

Or how about that you can't get a good sounding low B unless you have a 35" or more scale bass. Some of the best low B's I've heard, felt, and played came from 34" scale Warwicks and Sadowskys.

Bass players that only memorize riffs and don't know what the harmonic structure of the song bug me. There is nothing wrong with memorizing licks, mind you.

In my personal experience, this can apply to just about everyone in bands these days. It's becoming rare to work with guys who know much about theory.

An unfortunate stereotype, but still a funny term... :p

The equivalent for us is "basstards". And there are plenty of basstard comments here at TalkBass:

"Anyone who plays more than X number of strings is a poseur"
"Anyone who plays a fancy boutique is a poseur"
"Anyone who plays a vintage Fender is a poseur"
"Real bassists don't use picks"
"Real bassists don't use effects"
"Real bassists don't slap"

etc, etc...

OK, but even so I read it as a joking comment. Just as long as you realize that playing a bass with a pick really does suck. ;^)
