I am too easy to rip people apart for insulting lowballs.

Note to everyone - anyone who gives a sob story of any kind is a tool you should avoid.

The most common ones:

"I want to get this for my son but I'm broke"
"_____ is in the hospital, I am broke"
"I have (insert disability), give me a deal"
"I am a military vet, give me a deal"

Yes, "I'll take it" should only be posted if you intend to buy under the posted condition with no negotiations. I get it. But just because something happens (INFREQUENTLY) that does not mean we need another rule. The buying and selling of gear being much more open and negotiable will make for a better experience for the most part.

At the risk of starting a no no derail, making drunk driving illegal doesn't stop many drunk drivers. Nor will a rule regarding "I'll take it" posts. How many people do you think have even read the rules for the classified section here? (I couldn't even tell you where to FIND them.) For the moat part buying and selling here is a great experience. No need to micromanage over a few dipsticks.

1.) There are far more than you think, since you think there are "a few". Talkbass isn't different from anywhere else; and everywhere else is pretty terrible when it comes to the 'net.

2.) There is no way to "flush" those people out if they don't buy.

3.) As for the drunk driving bit, I would argue that but that is a thread derail.

Ugh, I hate thinking there's people like that in the TB community. That's just sick.

I'll add the religious angle to that list. Once they start mentioning their religion, my radar goes up. Not just on TB but in my daily business life too.

1) You simply cannot regulate away "terrible" on the net or anywhere else. And in a situation like buying used gear, which really isn't all that serious to begin with, I feel as though the process can be hampered by too many rules. But we can agree to disagree.

2) Sure there is. Report them to mods every time it happens. They will be gone soon enough.

3) Fair enough. I hope nobody took the bait, even though baiting was not my intent.

You negate one with two. If there is no way to "regulate", then how do they get flushed out? Mods aren't going to boot someone if there is no rule.

My feeling is you the seller can state sold or still available.

The term ill take it is similar to seeing one item on the shelf that either you're buying on impulse or really want and need. But seriously not the case sometimes, either the item is ridiculously priced or very rare.

Ever noticed when its listed as free to the first person who notifies the seller or giver in this case how a line of posts forms!

That process won't change, but hope that you're first and that the seller agrees.

Let's diagram that sentence, shall we?

Without the contraction: "I will take it."

I = first person proper pronoun indicating oneself
will take = simple future tense of "take"
it = objective pronoun indicating the item in question

Yep, any way I slice it, I come to the same conclusion. It's so simple. If you take the time to type this and don't follow through, you're a dork and I don't have any interest in doing business with you ... pretty much ever. I mean, if you're going to flake out, at least have the courtesy to do it via PM and not by dumping all over someone's sale thread.

But hey, that's just me.

On a recent sale thread one person posted they'd take it and another posted they were second in line. I posted something like "Damn, I wish I'd seen it earlier." Not that I'd take it or was in line, just regret. The previous posters both fell through, and the whole thing just took a couple of hours. Absolutely no idea what came over those guys, but why post you want it if you aren't willing to accept the terms of the sale?

This should be a rule. I nearly didn't post due to the previous posts leaving me to believe the item was gone, and the seller would have had to bump the thread indicating those guys flaked out. I don't know if it's an epidemic, but it's been noticed.
