I'm settled: I only need 2 basses

Two basses good.

Three basses is one more than two.

I am happy with three.

My Player P with J neck and PV '63s is my number 1.

The Squier Jag with the pups off the stock Player P is number 2.

The Rogue VB100 is number 3, with its soap bars and early Gibson look.

Of course, running any of them through my Ampeg PF20T is pure bliss.

I am good for now...;).

I think we're from different planets. There are way too many interesting basses out there to ever consider settling on just two.
I will throw the honest card in with @BlueTalon ...
There are some days that I require at least 3 different basses. Some don't realize that the old school tones were many times the amalgamation of two or three completely different instruments played in unison...
songs often had upright, a standard electric bass, and a tic tac/baritone/Fender VI/Danelectro... Either at the same time in unison, or in different passages.
I giggled with 2 basses... Sometimes 3... But in the studio... There is no limit.
Someone will say... I heard this awesome bass banjo... Or I like the upright... But can we do it with an electric upright with a bow... with magnetic pickups mixed with piezos... But only in this part.

I'll be 49 this year. Soon 50! Time to reconsider some things...

I think I'm settled on my bass arsenal. It'll wield the 2 following weapons:
-My faithful G&L L2500, 5-string active bass. There is no finer, nor more a versatile instrument. (It emulates a Fender Jazz bass and a MusicMan pretty well too!)
-A quality Leo Fender Precision bass. Classic 4-string, split-pickup design. And such a soulful tone!

I now believe that if I own both such basses, I'll be set for life.

What are your 2 fundamental basses?
I’d be happy with those two as well. I have seven, two 4 string and the rest 5 string but really, two would be enough.

Mine are quickly narrowing down: an upright, and the Tobias KillerB 6 string.

A couple years ago I just had to have a Portamento 6 string fretless. And it’s awesome! But since I started diligently playing and practicing the upright, I’ve not picked that Ibanez up more than a handful of times. I have a feeling it’s now seeking a home where it will get the playing time it deserves….
