I also like the fact that my 2 basses are Leo's designs, at each ends of his career.Okay I’ll play:
1. G&L CLF L-1000
2. EBMM Classic Stingray 4
Two gems from Leo himself.

View attachment 4646170 If it had to be 2, it'd be these. Heartfield with an East Uni-pre and a no name P with a Wilde p-46, flats and BEAD.
Used to do it all with the Heartfield and it's a lot more versatile with the new preamp.
Beat me to it...You're not settled.
You don't have a fretless.
Several years ago, I made a decision to start thinning the herd and sell most of the 17 basses I owned at the time and go down to 2 - 4 instruments .......several years and transactions later, I now own 20 basses
NC-17 bass porn!!... Bow-chicka-WOW-wowView attachment 4647205
I'd have a hard time choosing. The two fivers give me a fretted and a fretless and they're both versatile, but I love the 4's too. Basically a modded 70's Jazz sound and a mutant/psedo Pbass.
I love it. Took the preamp out years ago and just had a dark sounding jazz 5. But everything wrong with that stock pre isn't an issue with the Uni-pre. I spend time in passive mode for a number of sounds. Then get as Bright as I wanna be when it's time to slap.My Blue DR5 is my number one bass. Yours is the only other one that I've seen.
My question is:
Are you getting the resale price you want for the basses you’re letting go.
View attachment 4646620 It was supposed to be these two...my Devon and my Warmoth build.
But for the life of me I can't and haven't bonded with the Devon bass. My plan now is to sell the Devon bass and build another Warmoth jazz.
What are your 2 fundamental basses?
This sounds like me... But somehow I also acquired a banjitar, charango, mandolin, and an entire microphone locker.Several years ago, I made a decision to start thinning the herd and sell most of the 17 basses I owned at the time and go down to 2 - 4 instruments .......several years and transactions later, I now own 20 basses
Show us that 1444! Please….I'll be 70 in a few months. I've been playing music since 1961 and I have yet to determine what my two fundamentgal basses might. However, I do have several possibilities but my mind keeps changing for various reasons mostly to do with a combination of tone and comfortable playability.
They will definitely be well balanced lightweight fretted 4 strings with nylon tapewounds.
All indications are they will be shortscales...probably...maybe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
One of them might be my recently resurrected mid '60s Danelectro Silvertone Model 1444.
Show us that 1444! Please….
I'll be 49 this year. Soon 50! Time to reconsider some things...
I think I'm settled on my bass arsenal. It'll wield the 2 following weapons:
-My faithful G&L L2500, 5-string active bass. There is no finer, nor more a versatile instrument. (It emulates a Fender Jazz bass and a MusicMan pretty well too!)
-A quality Leo Fender Precision bass. Classic 4-string, split-pickup design. And such a soulful tone!
I now believe that if I own both such basses, I'll be set for life.
What are your 2 fundamental basses?
Prices are crazy now. Bought mine second hand in 1992 and 2001… my best ever investments (in my playing enjoyment!!!).Man, you've got one of my dream basses. I've always wanted a Wal. They're just so hard to come by.
