Anyone remember the day when you had a good relationship with a music store and they offered to let you try an amp by taking it to a show ? I mean, really. An amp that any of you buy is already tested for hours before you get your hands on it.

That was common back before internet commerce. Still doesn't excuse ''buying'' an amp with no intention to keep it.

have you thought of doing a zzounds type deal where you can make the first payment, use it for the show and then return it after because "it doesn't suite my needs or sound"?

If you don't like it, don't be dissuaded from taking it back, stink-eye or no. One of the problems with the current market it that a lot of us have to buy things sight-unplayed; in those cases, a return is easily justified.

"Just don't like it" is way good enough to return something. "Played it this weekend and don't need it now" is not.

With NEW gear? Never. Ever. I'm really curious as to what piece of new equipment a music store allowed you to try out on a gig, and when "the day" was. And I'm sure we'd all like to know the name of the store, because clearly they are awesome and deserve the business of any TBers in their area, if they're still in business!

The Sam Ash that I frequent makes a distinction between "floor models" and "new gear." I bought an amp from them and they let me take the floor model, and ordered a NIB amp. When it came in, I took the floor model back, and swapped them out. No prob. They've done that a few times for me. Yep, they've got me for life.

Gotta love this kind of crap... GC doesn't care, they just shift the used gear off onto the unknowing customer. All caused by YOU.

Because no matter what they say, it always comes down to Austrian (Australian?) litigation.

Maybe Austria should sue Australia for stealing most of their name...

Might be my only option tbh. Borrowing is kind of off the table, I've checked with my other bass player friends and no ones looking to lend. I've never rented equipment before, what's the cost/where would I even do it?

Honestly you should be able to rent a half decent amp for a night for less than $30.

He's very anal about letting other people use his stuff. To be honest, I just kind of feel like cutting ties with him and not using him for anything.

I am super anal about my gear too. However, if my buddy needed a rig badly for a show, and the one I just sold him exploded, I'm just being an a-hole by not letting him use my rig in it's place, especially just the amp.
