So if it has to be rack mounted, why not just get a rack mount surge protector for $30 or so? its way less and fits in the back of the rack.
that won't work on a (example) shallow skb rack with rails only on the front. i didn't even know they made rackmount p/strips
I still don't get why they don't build this stuff into the amps incoming power line. Apparently some do, some don't.
If somebody wants a string of outlets you can mount in a rack for convenience, that's cool, but it sholdn't cost anywhere what this stuff does and you shouldn't need this stuff to combat noise.
If like in B-string's example there is something extra that needs more/better filtering, then fine, get an additional specific part for that. That could be a filter like he linked to built into a plug and not $200 worth of bells and whistles.
the point is, if it has to rack mounted there are options outside of paying for the brand name.
It already exists in amp. To filter audio noise requires chokes and transformers that are tens of pounds. So electronics do even better with active filter designs. Much less expensive. No more 20 and 50 pound transformers. Filtering is superior.
