Bought a used rack mount "power conditioner" (actually a "Power Distribution Panel") a couple of weeks ago.
Seven switched outlets and one unswitched on the back; one switched on the front. Two pullout lights with dimmer. All the convenience I could ask for.
Cost me $28 including sales tax.

Not sure it has surge protection, but I don't care. I always carry plugin surge protection and ground fault interuption.

That I can see paying for the convenience of it. People wouldn't be so anti-power "conditioner" if these companies would just call them what they really are and not all this other over-hyped, over-priced "conditioning" horse squeeze.

They make a big difference. I have one in my personal studio and it made the background noise turn to dead silence. I use them from different companies , furman and monster etc. . A combination of different ones is best. Get a monster if u can . They have a new one with different outlet, e.g. To charge a camera with a USB or mini USB etc... One of those underrated things no one thinks of until......like a plunger.lol

Monster brand is one of the worst snakeoil salesman of them all. Fix your wiring and you won't need one.

I'd asked about this in some other thread that died off but several people claim these things help with noise, so, what would they have in them that your gear doesn't? Some little few dollar filter on the line that should be built in the amp anyway? Do that and there'd be no need for all this conditioning nonsense. Similair to the little filter you put on car radio's power wire so it doesn't pick up from the spark plugs.

FWIW, I've played some pretty dodgy places getting microphone shocks and everything else and have never needed one of these units.

Come on you think a club owner is gonna let you check his power. They are surge protectors too so equipment won't fry! My house has old wiring. I have heard news being reported through my speakers. Lol. The filter eliminated the problem . In addition I have tube equipment . I would rather add the extra load.
And if the club owner has crappy wiring and power you will be ready to play out regardless,of the scenario.

That looks tacky. Lol. Do you perform in your slippers too? That's tacky .lmao. I can't recommend people mess with outlets while possibly under the influence. Lol. Plug and play buddy!

Why not? If you're allowed to plug any of your equipment into the outlet, why can't you just plug a tester in first? I've played hundreds of gigs and never had anyone come and ask me what I was doing, or that I couldn't check.

1. Looks tacky? :rolleyes: I'll go out on a limb and say that the majority of gigging musicians use that over a "power conditioner"
2. What "messing around with outlets" is there? Can you plug gear into an outlet without a supervisor? If you can, you can test an outlet.
3. If you're under the influence before you even set up for the gig, that's tacky.

I don't need anyone's permission to make sure I'm not putting a few thousand dollars worth of gear, or my own personal safety/health/life at risk.

Sounds like you've been hit with a few too many lifted grounds on stage. :) After a few, it can cause permanent damage.

What do you mean 'let me' test the power. I don't ask. I plug in and my outlet tester is ALREADY testing. And yes, I've told sound engineers when the power isn't wired correctly and made them run a different line from a different location. I've also told them when something was lifted and the mics were causing shocks, because only an idiot will knowingly play that way.

I've been working this way for DECADES and have never had a 'club owner' say boo about anything.

You know what's tacky? Getting killed because of bad wiring in a club.
