I'm not familiar with this bass. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the "long horn" not ending at the familiar 12th fret?. What makes it a "long horn"?. There is something odd about the appearance though. It kinda reminds me of the Lakland shape.

Yup ... the upper horn extends past the 12th fret towards the headstock (among its other idiosyncrasies)… they were a beast all to themselves, some hated them, some loved them … but, they broke all of the 'American Standard' rules, that is why I thought this one would be fun to toss up and use as a bit of reminiscing for some, and a learning experience for others that may be looking to learn…
… yup, lot alike … but Pewter was the only color like this offered on the Longhorns, and only for part of the run … for '96, AmStand Jazz carry over (from '95) colors offered were Black, Crimson Burst and Brown Sunburst, with Candy Apple Red, Vintage White, and Sonic Blue added Feb 1 ...

I've learned that when looking at postings for bass offerings to tune out the words "Very Rare".
Everyone uses that in their ads.

.. all the same … I think the black around the edge on your Burst makes it look a lot different/smaller compared to the solid color Pewter … must have had the original bridge on yours, strings running right along the fretboard edge …

Wow, I just realized I never noticed the price. That's how absorbed I was in trying to figure out the bass! Now I have to go look at the listing again
Okay, this all got me curious, so I went and looked up some other 1996 Jazz basses. In 1996, American models had the heel truss rod nut, and no skunk stripe. This one has the skunk stripe and truss rod adustment at the headstock, like a MIM neck.
MIM basses from that era did have a different logo on the front, and the serial number on the front, but Americans had the serial number on the back, as this one does, and the front decal is correct. So, it looks like a MIM neck that has been doctored to look like a USA neck.
Also, I suspect those clover tuners are off a newer model too, because the 96's I was just looking at on Reverb all had flat ones.
