INXS Rock Star Debuts

jazzbo said:
So .... what do you guys think of the Patriots' chances this year?

"Tom Brady, you're just not right for our band, INXS."

Cue: Suzie crying hysterically, Dave Navarro staring at his shoes uncomfortably, Brooke Burke flashing a little cleavage and breathlessly intoning:" Which ROCKER will get sacked next week? Be sure to tune in next week to Rockstar:INXS!"

fade to black...

:D That's too funny! ROTFLMAO....

Gotta admit, there are MANY aspects of this show that just stick their chin waaaay out, just ASKIN' for it! :smug:

Thank goodness we got away from the sports discussion that temporarily broke in here. I'm all for sports, but not in the middle of an INXS thread.

My own sense of the situation in this show is that we will see more and more of the gals disappear, because I think the band realizes the a guy will be a better fit. (Or is just that I think a guy will be a better fit????)

I'm still thinking that I love Jordis, but I want her to have a solo career. I really like Ty, but not fronting INXS. So that leaves MIg (the Australian) and Marty (the blond guy who sang Nirvana's song and appeared to please the band). Brandon does not quite do it for me. Maybe if someone could help him restyle his hirsute look.

Of Mig and Marty, I guess Mig will win, because he is Australian. But what do I know? One thing I do suspect is that INXS already know which of the singers they want for their band.

I though that was clearly obvious after the first show aired, personally.

I would like to see her actually sweat a bit and see where that would take her. She leaves me really cold, for some reason.

His background is very impressive, and he's specifically the one who I wondered about even wanting the INXS gig. I don't necessarily see it as much of a step up for him, frankly. If you haven't seen this, check it out: Link Removed

I bet you're right about that.

JO...you should know(by now) that some of us(namely the guilty ones in this, your thread) are "Stream-Of-Consciousness" posters(i.e. we don't post in an AABA form). ;)

I thought i wouldnt enjoy the show at all but im actually quite liking it. Theres a few there that just are'nt going to be fronting INXS regardless of how well they can sing. The guy with the mohawk and the girl with the red hair and tatts. (even tho she sounded very good singing Somebody to love) I can relate with the phrase "you arnt right for our band inxs" because image is a part of it. Some people were trying too hard to stand out and be different and that can be seen a mile away.

I never really liked Hutchence in the first place, and just like other unique lead singers (Cobain, Freddy Mercury, Bon Scott) they cannot be replaced 100%. The new person has to be capable of doing what Hutchence did, yet also make it thier own. Like Brian Johnson did with ACDC. He knew he no-one could replace Bon so he didnt even try, thats why their are songs he wont sing to this day.

I think Mig will be a good chance. I liked his version of Lola and i think Dave was spot-on noticing the chicks going wild for him. That won't go unnoticed.

...The best part of the show was the actual rehearsing of the song with the band.
Yeah! Especially JD trying to explain his arrangement ideas for that Morissette song to the House Band: "Like Faith...gunka-gunka-gunk...and then: Whack, whack, whack!..." :D

PS: Sorry, but we're not quite up-to-date "Rock Star: INXS"-wise here in NZ (a week behind or so).

Well, now the show is down to, what, 10 "rockers", and the thrill and excitement mounts!!!

Will it be Mig??, or Marty.....or JD???
Will Brandon endure? What about Ty???
and ....Jordis???

....Not to mention all the drama taking place at the "Rock Star Mansion"......

ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........

I liked the parts with the vocal coach. I would've liked to see more of that, especially because I'm too cheap and busy to get my own vocal coaching. ;)

Jordis really killed on "The Man Who Sold the World." I hadn't been too impressed with MiG (is he a welder or something, or maybe a pilot of Russian fighter planes) before, but he did "We Will Rock You" really well.

Yup, and now the song selection show each week is going to VH1, because the ratings are pretty lame. There's speculation going around that the plug may be pulled before the scheduled end date. In contrast, American Idol is the top rated show this year. Oh well...

I wondered about the ratings; by now they must be sort of in the dumpster. As far as I'm concerned, the excitement of selecting who will be the "next lead singer of our band, INXS" isn't exactly
setting the entertainment world on fire.
"American Idol" covers a lot more ground musically, and a lot of it's popularity besides the performances comes from the synergy between the "cast" of judges and the host, as well as the overall format-showing the audition process, the wanna-be's, and their reactions, etc.

I watch "RockStar" now mostly for the satirical aspects of the show-
( Brooke & Dave ,& all the side dramas), also the occasional valid performance, and as always, the great job the house band does on covers. My advice to the members of INXS in that regard is---play with your mates; don't sit in!
After hearing Nate, the band's regular drummer play, their guy
should have NEVER sat in! He's solid I'm sure, but to me that's like taking the stage after Hutch or Duck Dunne- Tough act to follow-
Personally, I lay low, listen, then go home and practice after I hear a monster play!

I can't help but thinking that the people who thought up this contest are back at the drawing boards, re-tooling for the next big thing....

I watch the show when I can. I used to know one of the contestants, Deanna Johnston. She sang in a cover band, Lois Lane, that frequented the bar that I was the house Lighting Director for. She's an amazing singer and a wonderful person (and yes, really hot) so I am cheering for her, though I suspect I am wasting my time, I don't think she is allowed to win. Rumour mill has started that it is rigged already.

I havent read every post here, but has anyone but noticed the fact that all contestants are from North America, and all auditions were held in North America, yet there is one Australian guy in it? INXS are Australian. That's not the weird part though. The fact that he was actually living in the UK, performing in a musical based on Queens music, performing the part of Freddie Mercury, and it was Brian May himself that told him he would introduce him to INXS, who needed a singer. Then later on helped him get on the show when they decided to find their singer that way. I, along with several people I have talked to about it think that he was already picked to be the new singer, but they are using the premise of a contest to introduce him to the world, get interest in them and their music and make people feel attached to the singer. It's only a theory though, no hard evidence has surfaced yet to support it.

What's sad is that most of the nation, non-musicians, would assume that the INXS drummer is going to be a step up, simply because he is a "famous" musician with identifiable hits, as opposed to some "house" musician that probably isn't that good. Cause after all, if he was, he would play in some great band like INXS.

What do you want to bet that you are the ONLY poster here at TalkBass who remembers I was Jason Oldstead way back in the day? (I wish I had kept that name. Boplicity has a disingenuous ring to it, especially because I shamefully own more Chris Botti CDs than Miles Davis CDs. One thing, though. While I love Botti, his trumpeting is teaching me to appreciate Davis' creativity.)

I remembered.

Hey, I thought the very same thing about the INXS members sitting in. That backup band is just top notch. I've become a huge fan of the lead guitarist and the bassist.

While I know this entire show is about INXS and finding a singer who will sing with INXS, frankly if I were a singer, I'd rather sing with that backup band than those middle-aged INXS guys. :smug:

...Jordis has a great voice, as does Ty. Mig is good, too but the rest are nothing special...
I second your opinion, Barfly. Though I think JD's not too bad, either. Maybe it's just me, but his voice actually reminds me a bit of Mr.Hutchence's at times!

Man, I don't understand why INXS haven't tried to get Joe Cocker as their new frontman - Anyone heard his cover version of their "Never Tear Us Apart"? Hilarious!:D
